CNET Editors' review
Sometimes the best programs are those that don't contain a lot of bells and whistles, but that simply do a specific task easily and efficiently. Directory List and Print is one such program. This basic utility lets users create, save, and print lists of the files on their computers. It's not fancy, but that's the point; it's made to do one thing well with as little fuss as possible.
The program's interface is plain and easy to navigate, with panes displaying the user's directories and the program's output. Check boxes allow users to choose what information they want included in their list: date, time, size, path, and so on. Users then simply navigate to the desired directory, preview the contents in the output pane, and then choose what they want to do with it; the directory information can be printed, copied to the clipboard, or transferred to a Word document or Excel spreadsheet. Directory List and Print can also be added to the context menu, allowing users to right-click on any directory in Windows Explorer and launch the program. The utility comes with a brief PDF Help file, but we didn't need it; everything about it is intuitive. Overall, we think that Directory List and Print is a great choice for anyone seeking a simple way to print directories.
Directory List and Print comes as a ZIP file and is accessible after extraction with no need for installation. We recommend this program to all users.

"Best I've used for this utility, hands-down"
Version: Directory List & Print 2.12.1.1
Pros
Compact, fast, thorough, lots of options, multiple export formats, and free. Simply the best. Plus for small jobs, the Copy to Clipboard option is great.
Cons
Doesn't work on Network Drives because it needs a physical drive map to find the directory. So if I'm working on a server for work, I have to map the drive first, run the program, then un-map the drive. Not a big deal at all; just the only Con I can think of!
Summary
This is the one!

"Cannot choose sub directories level"
Version: Directory List & Print 2.12.1.1
Pros
Quick and easy
Cons
Under 2. Selection, if "loop sub directories" is checked the "Levels" box is inactive (grayed out). Anyone know how to limit the level please post.
Summary
Not useful for me unless I can limit the sub directory level.

"Simple, direct, fast, with excellent export options"
Version: Directory List & Print 2.11.9.1
Pros
I have to get long lists of file directories and subfolders in my work and this is the best tool for doing it. The export to Excel feature is especially nice as it avoids the usual export to text/csv and reopen in Excel steps in most other utilities. Plus it's a very small footprint on my machine. Loads fast, runs fast. Easy to remove and reinstall if necessary. And Free!
Cons
Only beef is it seems to launch Excel in another version than what I have so that if I have an Excel file already open, it's almost like I have two Excel programs running instead of just two Excel windows open in one program. Not really a con...just kind of an oddity.
Summary
This is the one. Search no more.
