CNET Editors' review
This single-function application is a reliable and practical tool for recovering deleted files on your system.
Data Recovery requires no installation and runs in a neatly designed, straightforward interface. The program scans a user-selected drive and displays removed files in a sortable list. For a quick search, specify part of the file name. The list contains file details such as folder, file type, size, and attributes. You can then choose which files you want to recover and specify the destination of the recovered files. Data Recovery also has a wipe feature for completely removing the located files.
There aren't any bells and whistles, but users looking for an efficient and reliable file recovery tool will find this freeware handy and useful.

"Useless Crapware."

"It worked!"
Version: Data Recovery 2.3.1
Pros
Can search by part of filename.
Cons
Keep getting an error message near the end.
Seems to take forever to finish.Summary
I accidentally deleted some pictures on my phone late last night, and came here to download this the moment I woke up.
I love that I can search by part of filename, and with my phone's camera saving the pictures with the date, it narrowed down the search a lot for the program.
Still, I can leave it on for more than 30 minutes and the progress bar still shows about 60% complete, and doesn't seem to increase much more. That could be the fault of my phone as it keeps changing files around without my knowledge. But there seems to be at least 1600 files deleted with filename including 30102011 (and none with filename 29102011)
Anyway, you can always cancel the search at any time you think your files have been found. Select the files you want and click recovery.
I have my files back, and I'm very happy. -
"Does not work for me"

Not requires an instalation
Cons
Didn't find any files on my external drive, it was formated accidentally and it does not find any files at all.

"Sucks Bigtime"
Version: Data Recovery 2.3.1
Pros
It sort of found stuff
Cons
It would show a list, and show that it scanned half way and then it would just close. No warning, no error message...nothing. So while it was scanning, I would try to recover a file and I would get this message: "The access code is invalid."
Summary
Worthless to me!

"THANK YOU! Deleted images recovered from SD Card!"
Version: Data Recovery 2.3.1
Pros
Easy to install and use. Worked brilliantly -- better than Pandora Recovery and File Recovery Programs, both of which did not see my memory card. A charm!!
Cons
None as far as I am concerned.
Summary
Last year, I celebrated my 50th birthday on an African safari. In January, my hard drive crashed and I lost all of the photos and videos from the safari. Yes, I had backed up my drive -- to Mozy -- but as I discovered with Mozy, it does not function as an archiving service, so each time it backs-up your files, that back-up replaces your previous back-up. I had deselected many of my photos because I thought that they were already backed up. Big surprise when my hard drive crashed and I discovered that I didn't have the back-ups. And I had already deleted the photos and videos from the SD card on my digital camera -- or so I thought until I discovered this absolutely superb program. ALL of my deleted photos AND videos from the safari were recovered. That was a very special trip for me, so losing these images left a hole. But now everything is all restored. Whew!! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!
