Pros
Sound > No soundcard? Simple to download and delightful for the earholes.
Cons
"Zero-Spam"? Spammed continuously with "upgrade to DFX plus". This is a demo. All functionality blocked. Look elsewhere. Shame because it's very good >.<

Pros
- Hooks into the Windows audio system thereby making it work with ANY application (e.g. Web browser, media player, PC games, etc). Also works alongside other audio enhancers that come with your sound card and/or media player if you choose to use them as well.
- Works with multi-channel audio systems including 5.1 and 7.1 surround (and does NOT downsample to stereo).
- Very light-weight; does not put excessive load on system resources; latency/buffer is adjustable too.
- Since the newer versions, the dynamic boost and hyperbass do not produce clipping even when maxed out.
- Very straightforward user interface with a lot of presets to suit all personal tastesCons
- Treble can be a little harsh but you can always reduce or even disable the "Fidelity" slider to compensate.
- Customer support is VERY slow at responding to e-mails (sometimes over a month before you get a response which is unacceptable)
- Headphones mode seems to degrade the sound quality. I'd recommend keeping it on "Speakers" even if you are using headphones.Summary
As my One-line summary states, it's a great audio enhancer right out of the box and there are plenty of presets to choose in order to appeal to your personal taste. Even if the under-lying technology is very simple (I wouldn't know this for sure), it works as advertised and does its job well.
Unlike what another reviewer stated, it DOES NOT disable itself and demand you pay an "upgrade fee". Instead, you are required to pay for any major update such as going from v10.x to v11.x but can continue using your existing installation (in this example, 10.x) if you'd like. -

During 2 Years DFX had 50% Downtime, No support ay all! They did not reply to any emails asking for help except for once - One Year Later! Their latest promotion is a scam; they disable your DFX and then ask you to pay extra for their upgrade which will fix the problem they created. All the downloads and customer dissatisfaction is more like 2 years of torture. You are better off not getting this defective software and service - as there is no service.
Summary

It is using an equalizer and a limiter (to avoid clipping).
Every audio player has a built-in equalizer!
