What are those wierd notification bubble things? They need a bit of work. Otherwise, the rest of the program is great.

I like this chat client, it's easy to use and there is an iPod touch App identical to it.
Cons
While it has several support IRC rooms i've found it difficult to get anyone to take the time to explain the operation to me. Admittedly, a former mIRC user I'm comparing apples [hehe] to oranges; I would love support that I could easily understand.
Summary
Since converting from PC to Mac I've tried both Xchat and Colloquy and both worked but hands down Colloquy is the best. Besides it supports the iPod Touch.

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com. Colloquy really looks like an OS X application, but I am a bit confused by the interface. When notices come up they appear outside the application - as bubbles at the side of the screen - and the text in them (which is usually truncated) is not selectable. When you click on a bubble it closes, and the notices below it do not move up, so you wind up with an unknown number of bubbles that have opened below the screen's bottom edge. I will have to look at the ReadMe (shock! horror!) to see if there's a way to have those appear in the main window or in a secondary window so I can copy & paste their texts as my ad-hoc typing is atrocious.

Why is it that all the notices that I get from PMs from bots and whatnot come up as growl bubbles and not as chat text in the chat window? The bubbles cut off a large portion of the message and poorly format it so I have no idea what they're saying.

I can't pinpoint what the deal is, I've tried simly letting it sit without saying anything, and it still crashes. The longest it has gone without crashing is 22 minutes, the shortest is 7 minutes or so. I've been going back to Snak and I'm finding I can easily live without Colloquys eye candy. Snak is like a rock solid old faithful, where Colloquy is a mixed bag. You never know what youre gonna get with any particular release. And, why isn't there a plain list of everything that has changed since last version ? That might help me look for things that could cause these crashes.

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com. I've been using Ircle, Snak, Athena, and couple of others scripts that didn't really last long on my pc, and guess what? That's the best script I've ever been to. All of those scripts had problems, some are technical, and some other problems are being sharewares! What's the chatting for if it's not free?! Anyway.. This script has it all, the looks, the sounds, the customizations, the stability. Very nice script, very good job. Would love to see an "Away" system on this script, and also, would love to see an update for the "nickserv" commands since this version is not "really" compatible with Nickserv on DALnet. Anyway, over all, this is the best script I've ever had, and I'm spending hours and hours on IRC now since I have a good script :-) Download it.

Hasn't crashed on me yet, DCC works flawless for me. Very customizable! Can't wait for new releases! Also can't beat the price of FREE! Snak and Ircle can't touch this. Looking to be a very good irc app. Thanks.

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com. Being a long time user of ircle I have clung to it for years longer than I should have I suppose. But as of late Ircle keeps timing out my connections and I ventured into the world of recent irc apps. I tried out snak and mabye it was the ircle background making things difficult for me but I couldn't get the hang of it. So I downloaded this and I was very impressed, it was almost like an irc version of one of my favorite apps AdiumX. After enabling tabs on Colloquy I was right at home and it wasn't dropping my connections. Everything is so Mac OS Xish. I havn't noticed slowdowns in large rooms, but I do have a new Ibook with 1GB of ram, that might negate any negative effects I could see. It seems to crash every now and then(twice in a week) so I may try a nightly build to see if it fixes the issue. Setting up file transfers was breeze since I already had ports forwared from using ircle, as well as having an ident server running. For the low low price of free this app does what it says it will and pretty well. If the crashing issue clears up I'll donate a few buxx.

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com. This day I have installed Colloquy first time. I hear preferenced sounds when the Notification Menu is on desktop, when I close it the sounds disappear. I renewed the plist but no improvement. Should I reinstall the whole program?
