Book Collector allows people to catalog their book collections and seek out specific titles using a variety of methods. While this program's appeal is limited, those who need such software will be impressed.

This program starts users off with a sample book collection, allowing them to experiment and get a feel before inputting their own books. The interface is plain but easy to follow. Building your collection is as simple as entering the ISBN number. From there a picture of the book cover appears along with a brief description and other publishing details. If your book was published before ISBNs were issued, there is an option to enter all the data manually.

Once a catalog is created, Book Collector functions much like the software at libraries or book stores. There are filters to sort entries, as well as a keyword search that scans the brief descriptions. In addition, there is a wealth of information you can input about the book, such as date purchased, purchase price, and more. Book Collector even offers people a way to track books that have been loaned out.

Anyone with more books than they know what to do with, or someone looking to organize their collection for selling or loaning, will find Book Collector indispensable. The trial is limited to 100 book entries. From its ease of adding book information to its customizable searches, this download is a book lover's dream.

Great product until they messed it up.

Pros
Fairly easy to use and I can use it at my desktop or iphone. It pulls cataloging from various sources and lets you prioritize fields (except for illustrator). I'm a teacher and when I need to gather books on a particular subject for a particular study, I can search author, genre or subject and get a list of my books that fit.
Cons
I've been using BC for years. I love it. But for some reason, they have it in for children's book collectors. They keep messing with the "Illustrator" field. Now it is not possible to search by illustrator, which makes it a nightmare for anyone handling books where illustrations are important.
Summary
They need to confer with their users more before they make changes so they are not sitting in a bubble. This has been a great program for me to use but they have made it almost unusable for me just by taking out one of the 3 most important search fields (title, author, illustrator).

Pros
Seems fine for personal collections. Scanner/ISBN features are nice. Good access to ISBN data for easy uploads (so long as the books are from after 1970 when ISBNs were created- they do have some data for some books that may be before 1970 and if not you can enter it- more work but is possible). Free updates and fairly good customer support.
Cons
NOT FOR LENDING!! No capacity to get books back from borrowers as there is NO EMAIL NOTIFICATIONS capacity for overdue books! You can only track who you are giving your books away for free. The Loan Manager is very buggy,and difficult to use. They have informed us that they are not planning on doing any upgrades on this part- only on making the "shelves" look pretty (as of 2014). While it almost has the capacity- and is falsely advertized as such- this is NOT for any professional organization or small businesses. Groups such as churches, community groups, small schools, non-profit organizations, etc. should AVOID THIS PRODUCT. (Too bad Collectorz chooses to loose out on this very large and potentially profitable client group, simply because they don't want to upgrade this one feature that everyone could benefit from. There are other programs that can do this and Collectorz almost have all the pieces in place for this- they just won't make this a really useful system.)

This product is fine for personal collections, but until Collectorz changes their mind and updates this product to incorporate overdue email notification capacities- DO NOT BUY THIS SOFTWARE. If you are planning on lending out your items you are just GIVING AWAY YOUR ITEMS for free. It is nice that you can track where they are going, but you will never see your items again. AVOID THIS PRODUCT if you think you may share any of your collection to more than 5-10 people as you will have to track them down personally to get your books back. Otherwise- for a personal organizational tool- its fine.
If using DB is your worst complaint

Pros
Interface is best of the free software trials. DB actually has many of the non-ISBN books. Connect is great feature. Find covers feature the best out there. Creator and his team are very passionate about the software--support available in forum, blog, facebook, and twitter.
Cons
Ebooks and audible books--here is where a link or partnership with Amazon may be of value, as basically adding printed books and changing format. Difficulty is when many kindle books do not have "printed" versions. Also, audible breaks into 2-6 parts--books scan picks up each part. Would rather just one entry for whole book. Waiting to see how 9 addresses this.
Summary
I purchased full version and CLZ barry.
Lack of real export in the base paid version.

Pros
This is not bad, but I would agree with some of the negative reports. No webcam support, I use a third party software to build a list of ISBNs. Then, it is painfully slow looking up. My iPad app Book Crawler is much better and much cheaper (I only wish it had a PC equivelant).
Cons
Import and most especially export is limited. I should be able to generate a comma delimitted list, but you cannot with their basic version, EVEN THOUGH YOU PAY FOR THAT version. I went through some convoluted printting to file to get access to my data and then removed the program from active use.
Summary
It used to be one of the only games in town that did what it did for a reasonable price, but there are better solutions out there that have more flexibility to access your own data. 1) If you want access to your data at a reasonable price, go elsewhere, or upgrade to their premium version which is overpriced. 2) Given all the portable devices out there that take ISBN pictures and webcams that auto focus, the lack of integration of these two in today's world is bad.
Overall very nice, with a few quirks

Pros
This will look up books based on ISBN and you can import a list of ISBNs, all very useful for me. It also has a scanner interface that I have not tested, as I am using a webcam to scan ISBNs to a file.
Cons
The look ups for a long list of ISBNs is PAINFULLY slow. There are free alternatives out there. This was a Trial version, which I did convert to the real one. no webcam ISBN scanning interface...seems like they could have this pretty easily.
Summary
Overall, not bad. I tried over 10 of these and this made the best cost-benefit ratio for me. I submitted a bug question and they responded within 24 hours.
Stop buying duplicate books, find the ones you have!

Pros
Enter books by title or bar code and you not only have a list of books but the cover art, summary, value, a place to put your own comments, etc. I bought an inexpensive scanner offered on the Collectorz website which speeds things up. It's great!

None I can think of.

Easy to add books

They make you pay to upgrade to continue using the program you already have. They let you buy it and then when they a new version out you are unable to use you version until you pay for the new version.
Summary
I will never use this program or one of it sister programs. I feel like they took my money when they are making me pay to update, which i was not told when I purchased this so when it stopped working they didn't know why and told me I needed to purchase the newer version.

No Amazon lookups - you must input info if not found in their exclusive database. This info then updates their db. You work for them for free. Nonexistant customer support. In their forums, they have ridicule support emails they've received.
Summary
Avoid this software.
For a book junkie, this software is essential.
