CloneSpy helps you find and remove duplicate files on your computer in order to free up space on your hard drive.

Pros

Quick scans: CloneSpy completes computer scans quickly, so you don't have to worry about having your machine tied up for any length of time. Once it presents you with the results, you can decide which files to get rid of. The app deletes the selected files quickly for you as well.

File types: You can choose to scan for files that have the same file name, a different file name but the same content, and varying degrees of the same content. This helps to identify older versions of the same file that may be slightly different but are also outdated. And the app will also identify files that don't contain any data and are just taking up space.

Cons

Complicated interface: The interface isn't terribly intuitive, which may pose a problem for less-experienced users. There is a good Help file to guide you through the process, however, and users with some computer savvy won't have too much trouble finding their way around the app.

Bottom Line

CloneSpy is a good free tool to take advantage of when you want to free up some space on your hard drive by removing all of the duplicate files that have accumulated over time. It works efficiently to find these files and delete them for you. With a little guidance from the Help file, even novice users will get the hang of things relatively quickly.

Pros
Very efficient can scan large file systems in a reasonable time. Flexible deletion criteria are essential for automating complex duplicate removal. Option to replace deleted files with a soft or hard link is really useful. Ability to move duplicate files without hard deletion. Just scanned a server drive with 85000 files and about 25000 duplicates. Replaced 15000 duplicates with soft links and moved files onto backup media. Completed in under 4 hours.
Cons
Documentation could be improved a bit particularly sections dealing with checksums.

Looked really good on the surface.
Cons
Installed a bunch of browser hijacking software powered by Bing from ASPCA and a few others. Thankfully I had CCleaner installed so I quickly got rid of them

You are forced to use CNET's installer for this product and they have woven in a bunch of stuff you really don't need and if you are not really careful it will install a bunch of marketing software that will change your home page, default search engine, and install extensions/plugins that you never intended to have. I'd avoid this. The software itself is really not very intuitive and I eventually gave up trying to figure it out. This product is not worth your time - even if it's "free".

Pros
Nice interface, can store CRCs in a file for future use to save time. Can save options in files for repeated tasks.
Cons
Takes a lot of RAM and processor time. Ending the task kept the process running, stopping the process in Task Manager caused a Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) on several occasions. Can't minimise to taskbar once it's scanning.

Reluctantly deleted from my system to try something else.

I use this program all the time! It finds files with similar or exactly the same names and similar file size, and allows you to select between the duplicate files before deleting. It has customizable options once you get used to the layout, but a great and very useful program. You need this if you have a lot of music or video files to organize, or have restored a back-up on your computer and need to figure out which files to keep!

Clears out cloned files. Frees your PC memory. I strongly advise reading the Help file first for instructions, and creating a restore point unless you are an advanced user.
Cons
Pretty confusing interface at first glance, but go carefully, read the Help file, and if in doubt LEAVE it. Annoying sound if you delete a file but hitting the mute key on your PC sorts that.
Summary
A great program here! Just don't get too slap-happy with it. Create a restore point to be sure you don't delete something needed.

Just downloaded and trying it on my Win7 box for the first time, so no results yet.

Interface is pretty intimidating at first. Be sure to check the help file before using.

CloneSpy will free up drive space on your PC by finding and removing duplicate files. Clonespy is also able to find files that are not exactly identical, but have the same filename. This allows you remove any older versions. Furthermore Clonespy can find zero length files. Those are files that do not have any content. Altogether with CloneSpy you can process files which - are duplicates - have the same file names - are duplicates and have the same file names - are zero bytes long.
