Just about anyone who uses a computer knows how useful the clipboard can be, but it's not hard to become frustrated by its limitations. Wouldn't it be great to be able to access previously cut and copied items, not just the most recent one? There are plenty of programs that let you do exactly that, and Clipboard Magic is one of them. This easy-to-use tool keeps all of your clipboard items handy and easily accessible, and it's a great choice for anyone who frequently moves text between documents or wants an easy way to save important information.
Clipboard Magic appears as an icon in the Windows system tray, and once it's running, you don't really have to do anything to use it. Just cut and copy as you normally would, and the program stores all of the text; a list displays brief previews of all items, and clicking on the expand button reveals the full text of each one.
You can also save, open, and edit lists of clips, and a configuration menu lets you easily customize the program's behavior, including suspending clip archiving. We weren't able to get Clipboard Magic's Help file to load, but this was a minor drawback; we found the program to be extremely intuitive, and we didn't have any questions about it.
Overall, we loved Clipboard Magic, and we think it's a great addition to any computer. Even if you don't think you need it, you might be surprised to find how useful it is.
Clipboard Magic is a freeware Windows Clipboard archiving tool. Any text copied to the Windows clipboard is automatically archived in Clipboard Magic. This text may be copied back to the clipboard with a click of the mouse. Text may also be edited and added manually. Clipboard lists may be saved to a file to be loaded later. Features include drag and drop, clip management and serial paste hotkeys. Many options exist including search and replace, stay on top of other windows and ability to suspend archiving. Runs from the system tray for quick access. Capable of supporting many languages.
It just froze. Couldn't get the toolbars at the top to work and once it was on screen, I couldn't get rid of it. I couldn't exit the thing and had to use the Task Manager to get rid in the end. I tried everything and at the finish got fed up and uninstalled it. I have now installed an old version (4) which is just fine. No frills, but that's what I wanted anyway.
I cannot think of any "cons" for this product. It is easy to use, easy to set up, figure out, etc.
I use this app for storing stock answers to the various Q+A forums in which I participate. It's a handy tool that I've been using for more than five years now. When my computer was recently serviced by the Geek Squad at Best Buy, they (carelessly) removed this app from my laptop. I was able to download another copy, and surprisingly, my files had been saved on my computer! This is a program I'll always keep. (I am a casual user, email, shopping, finances, Twitter, news, reading, and forums like Yahoo Answers.)
IF you have a need for storing phrases and words you use often, then this program is excellent; easy to learn, easy to use. I frequently join various forums and found that my responses to the same questions, were the same answers! So, I store those pat answers in my Clipboard program to facilitate this particular use.
Can't think !of any cons
I'd download it again, and I honestly recommend it to you.
Lets you copy several different things to the clipboard at once Visual interface to see what you have on the clipboard Ability to save your current settings
Loaded an older version of file, despite saving over it. Graphical interface shows tool tip to show what clip will be copied, but then it obscures your ability to see clip listing. Click on selections didn't save time over copy from notepad instead
Works, but didn't save much time. Drove me a little crazy over the month I used it. Ended up getting a different tool.
Great help where you need to enter multiple data items over and over. Allows me to create files to hold sets of data. Has saved me hours of repetitive typing. Works great with Win7. The price is unbeatable. Been using for over 30 days, no problems.
Nothing to note. Saving images would be nice.
I have used other paid clipboard extenders and although they offered more features they did not out perform this little gem. This program does one thing but it does it exceedingly well. It allowed me to create several files of data sets so that I did not have to re-type repetitive information, just "click" on the item in clipboard list and use "ctrl-v" to insert it in the form I was using. The program gave me many options for saving, recalling lists of saved clips, appending them, and was easy to correct or modify lists. A nice feature is the ability to re-size the window to show fewer or more saved clips. When I was not using Clip Board Magic it sat nicely in the tray and still captured all my data saves. This was a nicely behaved program. Not once did it get "buggy" or fail to perform nor did it conflict with and other program in memory. One feature not available in this program is the ability to "double click" on an item in the clipboard list and have the item inserted in the text automatically. Had that feature been included, I would have given this program a full 5 stars.
It can hold multiple entries from the clipboard (the last 25 text entries)
It cannot handle pictures or screenshots. It stopped working after around 20 seconds.
EDIT: it SUCKS
ORIGINAL: It is good if you need to hold short term data backup copies. I use this for Youtube where my posts often get screwed up and never make it to the server.
In fact, I should have used it just now for my review on this page, because the stupid download.com didn't successfully upload my review...but I didn't use it, so now I had to rewrite my review. I'm going to use it this time to make sure I don't have to retype this crap. yeesh
Cannot handle images, kept getting "list index out of bounds" error when dragging items
The reason I still use this is because even though other clipboard managers have more features, this one is still the fastest and less annoying than the others.. it's very straight forward. Just select an item and paste where you want. It doesn't automatically paste but instead loads it into your clipboard cache which for me is better. I also work only with text so I don't mind the limitation. To me this just works the best for my particular needs.
Your second complaint makes no sense. There definitely is a direct paste. You click on an item in Clipboard Magic and it copies it to the Windows clipboard. When you press Ctrl + v the text is pasted into whatever application you are working in.
