  Couldn't figure out how to compare two directories. One had folders and wanted to expand them... Just way too much for me to look at and the confusing aspect of it.

• Must Have for comparing and maintaining backups

  Pros

  1. Allows me to maintain backups of my PC folders on external drives. 2. Lots of viewing options (ie older files, newer files, same files, etc.) 3. Color coded file status. 4. Can save 'sessions' for different folder/drive combos 5. keeps track of the time remaining in in a synchronizing session

  Cons

  Can't search through my many sessions.

  Summary

  I backup my 4 TB of data to many external hard drives. Most of my data is photos, books, music, videos. They are all arranged in folders and can be backed up on a drive and folder to folder basis. Beyond compare makes this whole process possible. I use it monthly and would be lost without it. I use Ver 3 (am upgrading soon to ver 4) and it is bug free and works well. Highly recommended for synchronizing my backups.

• Good program with one major flaw

  Pros

  This is a good solid program with solid performance; through the use of plug-ins one can compare a lot of different file types.

  Cons

  The major flaw for me is that the program does not allow word-wrapping. While a lot of users may be coders, I use it for text comparisons of bills and legislative enactments, and inability to word-wrap seems like a strange limitation. I would also like it if the reports would generate cleaner HTML code.

  Summary

  Good solid program with a lot of plug-ins, but lacks the ability to word wrap text files. I'd also like to see three-way comparisons.

• Great PC Comparison Utility!

  Pros

  This App lets me compare Folder contents, which is one way to excise dupes &/or to Sync-up two folders. There is also a feature that lets you set up a Sync job (but I haven't used it yet). Can also compare contents of two files, and edit to incorporate all changes into one or both files.

  Cons

  None noted...

  Summary

  This is on my "Must Have" list. I don't use it often, but when I do, it solves a lot of problems.

  Many features, multiple connection methods (FTP, SFTP, File share), text and image compare tools, multiple comparison methods (CRC, file size and date, etc.)

  Cons

  Could use support for WebDAV, Amazon S3, Dropbox, etc.

  Summary

  A great little file sync and compare tool, super fast, and a great way to move data from old hard drives. Has saved my bacon many times.

• Put Adware on my computer

  Summary

  After installing Beyond Compare on my computer and using it a fiew times I realized it put some kind of ASPCA adware on my computer and I started getting popups asking me to do backups. I checked my installed programs and sure enough I saw that adware was installed the same date as Beyond Compare. Would not recommend this program.

  Pros

  Very comprehensive and yet easy to set up. Compares file content which I've used to look for differences in PLC logic making my job easier.
