Publisher's Description
From Jetico:
BCWipe is an ultimate software product that allows you to delete any unwanted data from your hard drive: files, folders, records, private data, cookies, file slacks, content of the swap file, previously accessed pages on the Internet. Standard operating system's deletion procedures remove only a reference to a file from filesystem tables leaving it's content intact. With generally available undelete tools the file can be easily recovered. BCWipe brings peace of mind by using military-grade procedures to wipe deleted file contents making it impossible to recover. Data wiping employs DoD 5200.28-STD and Peter Gutmann data shredding schemes rendering information in deleted files, free disk space, swap file, empty directory entries and file slacks unrecoverable. BCWipe includes Task Manager to set up predefined times when files are wiped out automatically. A swap file encrypting utility is included and it provides ultimate protection of swap file content.
What's new in this version: Version 5.03.2 some minor bug fixes.

"This page is terrible!"
Version: BCWipe 3.11.7
Pros
None. This page does not provide what it says it does, a link to BCWipe 3.11.7
Cons
I took time to sign up for CNet to complain about all the "Download" links on this page which are junk spam crap. Please stop this practice on your site, it makes using your page a horrible experience.
Summary
Where is the DL link for the old version of BCWipe? I still don't see it. I want the old version, not the latest because the latest does not work on Win95, an old system I need to destroy.

"great wipeware"
Version: BCWipe 4.01.23
Pros
I've found this to be a first rate product and used it for years with no problems
Cons
BCWipe 5 is available so why try 4?

"Used this for years - a big favourite"
Version: BCWipe 4.01.23
Pros
Used it for years on Windows 98, XP and Win 7. It deletes whatever you want including any single file or group of files and the swap file if you choose. It will also wipe any previously deleted files (free space on a drive) and lots of other stuff.
Cons
Takes a long time to finish using the top deletion methods but is able to turn off your pc when its done if you leave it running, say, overnight. You can though select your own number of times to overwrite the files.
Summary
Great software.

"Piece of garbage"
Version: BCWipe 4.01.23
Pros
Has full military bit-rotate and lets you right-click to secure wipe a file.
Cons
Very, very slow. Organisation of the interface is very clumsy. Makes errors and mistakes. Overpriced (software with errors isn't worth anything anyway).
Summary
Yes I have to agree its such a pity this program is a piece of utter excremental garbage, because it ticks good boxes. It is useful for erasing single files securely, but in general what use is that to anybody? As soon as you go to erase a large number of files the slowness becomes apparent. Clearing the free space on a large volume is atrociously slow and is also - and this is unforgiveable - error prone. Very large NTFS volumes simply cannot be cleared, this program cannot do it without crashing with errors. I dont recommend it. Try Disk Redactor instead - its semi-free, as in the main program works but the 'advanced' options are $10 - unfortunately it only does zero writing not bit-rotating, but a couple of passes and you should be safe anyway according to the university professors. So to Jetico, makers of BCWipe - try again, you keep failing.
Forgot to say in the Cons - too many Caveats. As soon as you have to "make sure you do this!" with any program you can declare it broken. BCWipe is broken.

"Now my antivirus and spyware apps don't work"
Version: BCWipe 4.01.23
Pros
Nothing to like - I have no proof it did anything useful.
Cons
After installing my laptop now powers off whenever I use a lot of RAM (have 2GB) - and whenever I run either antivirus AVG 2011 or anti-spyware Malware Bytes.
Summary
I had no problems at all before installing bcwipe. Nothing else was installed in last 2 months. I did one complete wipe; activated transparent wiping; & encrypted swap file - Now laptop powers off whenever I run my antivirus app or my anti-spyware app - and also when I'm doing a LOT of copying and pasting. --- Their support was very polite - told me it couldn't possibly be their app. I have tried everything to fix it - Now I have to format my harddrive and reinstall everything. *DON'T install this!*

"Good product to wipe your files"
Version: BCWipe 4.01.20
Pros
Ease of use.
Cons
Its a bit slow, but given how comprehensive it is, I am not overly surprised.

"D/L from the site, apparently has the newest release"
Version: BCWipe 4.01.16
Pros
The Jetico site has 4.01.5; Which seems to be the latest version.
So far not one issue; Simply right click, select it and let it go.
Will completely rid you of every file regardless if you just click "Yes to All"Cons
Only con I could say is that some files by Windows will read a much much smaller size and file count; And then you'll be waiting a few hours or more for it to be wiped entirely.
*Especially* entire folders at a time. -
"Don't download it! READ WHY!"
Version: BCWipe 4.01.16
Pros
Good concept, horrible program.
Cons
Does not work at all. Cant schedule wiping and cant just start wiping. Keeps your hourglass by your mouse pointer running constantly. Adds 4 running processes at startup and cant disable auto startup even with MSCONFIG. EXTREEMELY DIFFICULT TO REMOVE
Summary
DOWNLOAD AT YOUR OWN EXPENSE!
IF YOU READ THE ABOVE AND YOU STILL DOWNLOAD IT, YOUR GOING TO FEEL FOOLISH IN THE NEAR FUTURE. -
"Good enough for the Military = Good enough for me"
Version: BCWipe 4.01.8
Pros
Super smooth Windows integration, so it's actually very simple to install and start using in minutes.
Transparent Wiping feature is an especially nice add-on or those of us that have better things to worry about than setting and running wiping tasks.Cons
So effective at erasing data beyond recovery, that it could be dangerous in the wrong hands.
Summary
My contacts in the military told me they always use BCWipe to permanently delete files. Some even said that BCWipe is such a powerful and effective tool to completely wipe data, that they won't allow other staff to keep the software on their computer. For many years, I've relied on BCWipe to be 100% certain that my private data cannot be recovered.
There's simply no better way to permanently delete files. -
"can't get the thing to work"
Version: BCWipe 4.01.3
Pros
If I could have gotten the darn thing to do something then their might be something to list here but I could not get it to do anything. I am not that much of a techy so it may be my fault.
Cons
It took two times of tring to install to get the job done, then the help file was not any good to tell how to register the thing. Then it tells me I am not the admin of the computer when I just got it two days ago and I am the only one who use it.
Summary
Cnet is my place to go for info on software and has been for a long time. Heck I just decided to become a registerd user after geting my new HP. Cnet you sure let me down on this one. Two times to get the install done then it took a while to find out how to regester it but then it still would not work. Granted I am use to Window Washer and have use it for five or six years, it easy but its not for windows 7.
I do not think its my computer because its new freash out the box. A HP Pavilion Elite e9220y with a quaid processor and 8 gb ram and a hole bunch of other stuff that I really don't understand but is supose to be the good stuff. I called my tech and he told me to try adifferent type program so thats what I am going to do. If you download this I sure hope it works for you!
