Ashampoo HDD Control 2 monitors, maintains and defragments hard drives. The software supports not only all common IDE and serial ATA hard drives, but also provides improved support for external USB hard drives and solid state drives (SSDs). The extended user interface gives an overview of the status of your hard drives' health, performance and temperature. Also the software supports the S.M.A.R.T self-test to check for electric and mechanic problems of hard drives as well as adjustment of the noise level and the power management (if supported by the hard drive). With just a few clicks the software finds unused files and Internet traces, which can then be deleted. Among the common methods Ashampoo HDD Control uses the so-called "proactive" defragmentation. Apart from that it's possible to restore accidentally deleted files and folders and use benchmark function, which checks the performance of hard drives.
What's new in this version: Improved smart monitoring. Improved Drive Cleaner. Improved reports. Fixed some minor problems.

I made a previous post about Ashampoo HDD Control not being compatible with Seagate hard drives. I contacted Ashampoo about this issue and I received a quick response from them. They were very helpful in making it right. The newer version is call "Ashampoo HDD Control 2", and they were nice enough to give me this version so I can test it out on my system. This newer version works correctly with my Seagate hard drive showing that the performance is now 100% perfect .

Absolutely horrible if you have a Seagate drive. As noted by other posts it will state that even brand new Seagate drives perform poorly.
Summary
I really thought my hard drive was starting to go bad and I started to make plans on buying a new drive. Just the thought of redoing a new hard drive was driving me crazy thinking about reloading all my programs and setting my computer up to how I have it now. I am glad I found this post, the problem is not my hard drive but Ashampoo's HDD software.

Resource hog, has to run on start-up, really doesn't do anything better than what most of the free programs of this type do, like Auslogics Boostspeed, Glary utilities, Moo0 , etc, your better off saving your money and using one of those programs.
Summary
Why pay for something that doesn't do anymore than a program you can get for free, bottom line here, is your paying for the name only, because it really doesn't do anything better than the anything else available.
