CNET Editors' review
Need a utility to create and burn backups of your CDs and DVDs? Alcohol 120% can handle just about all of them. Popular for its ripping speeds, it only lacks in the options department--they're a bit thin.
Its wizard-based interface is handy for managing CD images and virtual drives. The program handles most disc image formats, including ISO, Nero, CloneCD, and CDRWIN. Profiles let you save copy settings for audio, game, data, discs. Beyond the wizard, the interface is sparse. Still, the functionality of the application, which should satisfy all users, justifies its price.
Publisher's Description
From Alcohol Soft:
Alcohol 120% can handle the creation of 31 virtual CD and DVD-ROMs, letting users play discs without needing the physical disc. Users can copy CDs and DVDs to CD-R, CD-RW, DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-RW, DVD-RAM, and DVD+RW discs. The reading speed of a virtual CD-ROM is 200x. It supports normal CD, DVD, and CD RAW subchannel reading methods. The RAW reading method lets users emulate all CDs. Alcohol 120% supports numerous CD (CD-DA, CD+G, CD-ROM, CD-XA, VideoCD, Photo CD) and DVD (DVD-ROM, DVD-Video, DVD-Audio) formats. It also supports all current (ATAPI & SCSI) drives. The latest version adds two more profiles to the data type options and includes support for unusually formatted DVD+RW discs formatted by other software.

"Doesn't work"
Version: Alcohol 120% 2.0.1.2033
Pros
The trial version is free.
Cons
I downloaded the trial. It wouldn't recognize my .mdf. So I deleted it.
Summary
If the trial doesn't do what it's supposed to, I'm sure not going to pay for the full version.

"You'll be glad to have in your arsenal"
Version: Alcohol 120% 2.0.1.2033
Pros
The best I've seen. And no disc player is needed to install software, or play games.
Cons
No apparent uninstaller, but get around that by using the free program called Revo Uninstaller, browse to the folder in C:\Program Files, and select any file within, reboot, then delete the empty folder.
Summary
I highly recommend this software. Takes a few minutes to figure out how to use the various options in the interface, but honestly it's pretty intuitive. Be sure to look for the sale price of approx 39 usd for a lifetime license with updates. If it's not currently on sale, it likely will be by the time you finish your free trial. - Or do some googling and I'm sure you'll find a similar offer.

"Thanks CNet for wasting my time"
Version: Alcohol 120% 2.0.1.2033
Pros
Don't know - it won't run on my OS
Cons
Nothing that I know of wrong with the software but CNET SUCKS. they can't be bothered to check information, specifically system requirements.
What's happened? CNET was a source of great software now it's just a big waste of time.Summary

"Would not use this program ! Ever"
Version: Alcohol 120% 2.0.1.2033
Pros
Our staff found the program too hard to use . It was too hard to change from CD to DVD. These guys need to come up with a simple layout that anyone can understand and work
Cons
When we tried to get rid of the program we still ended up with their logo on our browser pages. When I asked for help to remove it just got smart emails back
Summary
Too hard, poor back up and follow up, and certainly not friendly people to deal with. Lonf live Nero

"cant do without it daemon tools doesnt even come close"
Version: Alcohol 120% 2.0.1.2033
Pros
easy to use, makes perfect backups, allows mounting of different image formats. burn section is very customizable allowing for exact copies, especially when creating images of game discs.
Cons
the check for updates to product feature can be annoying but you can disable that. it does come at a decent price but if it was 19.99 US dollars id buy a copy for every machine in the house. all 8 of them!
Summary
if you want an all-in-one solution to burn, copy, mount, etc, program than go with alcohol 120%. ive tried daemon tools, which come free for the stripped down version, but none of their versions compare to alcohol 120%. i believe alcohol has a 52% version which allows mounting of discs for free but doea not allow for burning etc.
