Publisher's Description
From Digital Matrix:
AirSnare is an intrusion detection system to help you monitor your wireless network. AirSnare will alert you to unfriendly MAC addresses on your network as well as to DHCP requests. If AirSnare detects an unfriendly MAC address, you have the option of tracking its access to IP addresses and ports or of launching Ethereal. Version 1.5 may include unspecified updates, enhancements, or bug fixes.

"Works with Win 7 as long as you download WinPCAP 4.12"
Version: AirSnare 1.5
Pros
Captures internet packets and allows you to monitor the sources. Color codes the packets as well. I read what the color codes mean, but I haven't had time to analyze exactly what the mean yet to figure out which requests I must block.
Cons
You must download WinPCAP 4.12 at http://www.winpcap.org for it to work with Windows 7. It comes with WinPCAP 3.1, but WinPCAP 3.1 is incompatible with Windows 7.
Summary
Oh, for anyone else who is interested, if you start a capture and it appears that you are not intercepting any internet traffic, go into the "Capture --> Options" and either check or uncheck the promiscuous mode. If you are still unable to capture packets, then go into "Capture --> Interfaces" and make sure that you are trying to capture packets from the correct interface (I had to do this last step because I wasn't capturing any packets initially). I also opened an internet radio station to make sure that packets were being exchanged.
*promiscuous* Sorry, misspelled. Easy thing to do : )

"Works fine with WIN 7"
Version: AirSnare 1.5
Pros
Still works with WIN7.
Cons
Works with WIN7 but you have to update WinCPAP manually.
Summary
I've used Airsnare since 2004. I tried installing it to WIN 7 and it didn't work and gave errors. Then, I upgraded WinCPAP to 4.12 (from WinCPAP.org) and it works fine again. Although the Airsnare installs WinCPAP, it is an older version. Since Airsnare hasn't been upgraded since 2006 (way before Vista and WIN7), you will need to download and install the WinCPAP upgrade that works with Vista and greater manually.

"Probably good for more advanced users, not me."
Version: AirSnare 1.5
Pros
scans quickly
Cons
I don't understand what the information is that it is showing me.
Summary
I rated this product as "good" because, I'm sure this product is good for people who understand more about IPs and MAC addresses, not me.
This program would open and scan quickly. However it would then throw up what seemed like ID numbers, which would be fine if I knew all the ID numbers for the machines allowed on my network, but I don't. It also seems to pick up any wireless router in range, and since I live in an apartment, there are quite a few.
The option for the program to talk to you is interesting, though the voice is really creepy and robotic, I could probably turn it off but haven't.
Like I said, it's probably fine for more advanced users, but it's not very intuitive for a beginner, someone who just wants to see what is on your own specific network. I don't care what's going on on other networks with other routers, I just want to watch over mine. -
"Nice free network monitor"
Version: AirSnare 1.5
Pros
It keeps track of your mac addresses, and lets you know if an unknown mac address tries to access your network.
Cons
Includes winpcap, ethereal, and airsnare. You must know all of your mac addresses to use this (computers, routers). Had to download a missing file from my puter to get it running, but after finding it on some dude's website, I got this thing working
Summary
Does what it says, but from what I understand, it's a lot of work for something someone can bypass by cloning one your mac addresses.
