Video Password Protect is a desktop application that converts media files into encrypted containers secured with a password. The program processes video, audio, and image files and transforms them into protected output formats that restrict playback without authentication. Encrypted content remains inaccessible through common media players until the correct password is entered. 

Video Password Protect incorporates AES encryption during packaging while preserving the original media stream within the protected container. The program also supports combining multiple media files into a single encrypted package, producing a consolidated output file that stores protected content and associated playback control.

Securing files with AES

Video Password Protect’s primary function is the AES Encryption Engine, which converts supported video, audio, and image files into encrypted containers. During this process, the original media streams are encapsulated without modifying the file quality. The encryption stage generates a protected structure that blocks direct access to the embedded media data until the correct password unlocks the container. Encryption applies equally to single files or batches, and the protected output prevents playback through standard media applications.

Another core component is the GEM Container Format, a proprietary file type used to store encrypted media. GEM files preserve the original encoded media streams; however, they require the ThunderSoft GemPlayer application for playback. The container stores encrypted media data and password verification parameters in a unified file structure. Playback is restricted until authentication occurs within the player, preventing the media stream from loading or decoding until password validation completes.

The software also provides an Executable Media Package option, though limited; this mode encrypts media and exports it as a standalone EXE file containing both the encrypted media container and an embedded playback module. The executable prompts for a password before any playback functions activate. This package format includes copy-protection restrictions and eliminates the need for an external player. The EXE container can also include multiple media files combined into a single encrypted archive.
