CNET Editors' review
Adolix Split and Merge PDF is a handy utility for anyone who needs to manipulate PDF files but does not have access to the full Adobe Acrobat software.
As its name states, the application provides only two functions: splitting and merging. For splitting, Adolix offers pattern-based choices as well as the ability to identify specific pages akin to the Print function in Microsoft Word. When merging files, you can adjust the order in which the files will be appended to one another. The application also lets you enter passwords for encrypted PDFs, choose the target directory, and set a naming convention for tile. Advanced users will appreciate the ability to pass command-line arguments to the tool. The interface, while easy to understand, does have its own issues. For example, a multiline Add Files list implies that you can add multiple PDFs to split, set options for each, then run the actions in one batch, but this is not possible. You cannot access the sparse Help file through the program's interface; instead, you must navigate to its position with the program's Start Menu folder.
Though Adolix says this software is free of limitations, this is actually not true. Per its own Web site, you cannot merge more than five documents at a time or split a PDF of more than 50 pages. Except for those boundaries, this is an excellent little utility suitable for users of any level.

"Just what i'd hoped for"
Version: Adolix Split and Merge PDF 2.1
Pros
Awesome! Simple to use and super fast to split & merge.
Cons
No cons - works great.
Summary
So much better than using an online pdf merger which takes forever to process.
-
"Handy application. Free version has limits."
Version: Adolix Split and Merge PDF 2.1
Pros
Quickly merges or splits PDF documents.
Cons
Not free. More like a free trial. It can only combine 5 files at a time. The number of pages it can split are also limited.
Summary
Great find for those who only need to merge or split a few small documents. Not sure if the full version would be worth the money given limited functionality.

"Install IncrediMail w/o asking"
Version: Adolix Split and Merge PDF 2.1
Pros
Does what it is supposed to do.
Cons
Install IncrediMail without asking. The uninstall process have bugs: left several entries in my registry and took a long time to clean it up. Install unwanted toolbar and changed initial page as well the search engine. Not recommendable!
Summary
It is a pity that happened with my computer. Some months ago I installed for the first time and did not found any kind of problems. Now, this IncrediMail (really unwanted program - it tries to change everything in my computer!) convinced me not to try any further "free" programs. It is much worse than spies or spams.

"Combines many PDFs easily"
Version: Adolix Split and Merge PDF 2.1
Pros
Drag and drop
Cons
Maybe drag and drop should order alphabetically, although this is very minor, and can change the order manually.

Version: Adolix Split and Merge PDF 2.1
Pros
Fast, easy, intuitive. I split a PDF into 3 pieces very quickly - no muss, no fuss
Cons
None - works as described
Summary
Free, and it works for what I needed. The master PDF was too large to upload, so I split it to three and it worked perfectly.
-
"Good Product if you don't have many files."

You can only merge 5 PDF files into one document.
-
"Simple & effective"
Version: Adolix Split and Merge PDF 2.1
Pros
Easy to use. Just what I needed to combine large pdf's together.
Cons
You have to remember to write .pdf at the end of your chosen filename otherwise your computer won't know what file type it is. The application doesn't do it automatically.
Summary
A simple and effective tool

Pros
The interface is easy. Works very fast. Results are perfect. It's free.
Cons
None. I didn't do anything too crazy and it worked for what I needed done.
Summary
Thanks for the free software. It works like a charm. I had two gigantic PDFs and it merged them in less than a minute. I didn't push the program to see its limits. But for free how can anyone complain.
