• Excellent Editing software. Prefer over the latest FCP.

  Does everything i want from a editing app. Easy interface and excellent export results. Still testing the HD capabilities but looking good so far. NVIDIA graphic card really help the rendering shift along and help real time playback.

  Can occasionally get a bit tetchy but sorted when upgraded RAM and needs decent NVIDIA graphic card

  This is the best video editing software I have ever tried. I like this even better than Final Cut Pro from Apple. I have all my home videos made with Premiere. Bravo Premiere! Thank You Adobe!

  Pros

  Excellent editing speed and set of tools. Supports native DSLR video playback; great for my 7D footage, because I don't have to convert the files or do proxy editing. The workflow is much faster with other codecs as well, including HDV and AVCHD.

  Cons

  Need to install a newer graphics card to properly utilize the new mercury playback engine (still runs fine without it though).

  Summary

  Fantastic editing software with great speed and performance when editing. I've used a number of different editing programs including both Avid Media Composer 5 and Final Cut Pro 7, and In my personal opinion, Premiere Pro CS5 beats both of them in speed and usability. The small things I had difficulty doing on FCP and the Avid (such as right clicking and going to change speed when manipulating audio) works completely flawlessly in Pr CS5, whilst in Final Cut, It won't let me do that for some reason? It handles a number of different codecs wonderfully. I've used HDV, DV, H.264 and AVCHD all in one sequence without rendering and have received awesome playback performance. The program barely crashes at all now, so the issues with previous versions of the program have obviously been met. There's not a lot to say really; it lets you focus on story telling, and less on worrying about rendering and converting files. Download the trial and try it out! You won't be disappointed. The only peeve I have, is that you'll need to buy a new graphics card to use the new playback engine properly. Without it, you'll have the same playback functionality as previous versions, meaning there will be little DSLR video acceleration. Other than that though, it's fantastic!

  I tried a very early version of Premiere many years ago. It was not very stable in the early days. A friend is singing the praises of CS5, so I thought I'd give it a go. Turns out the trial only supports DV and not HDV?!?!?! Over an hour of download and installing was pretty much wasted for me. All the work I do now is HDV or better. I wanted to see how preview and render performance was with HDV. How it does in DV is of no use to me. It's a time limited trial, and I do not see why they disabled HDV support in the trial version.

  Doesn't work, crashes all the time on 64-bit Windows 7 Professional. Buy Final Cut Pro instead.

• The BEST video editor out there

  - Excellent workflow - Supports virtually all file formats - Very advanced features - Infinitely customizable export settings - Excellent for advanced users - If you're used to Final Cut, this will be a very easy transition for you.

  Cons

  - Rendering/exporting isn't exceptionally fast if you have an average processor (but it isn't too slow either)

  Summary

  If you're an advanced user, this is the perfect NLE for you. Premiere Pro's interface is almost identical to Final Cut's, so if you're a FC user who's trying out Premiere for the first time, this will be an easy shift for you. I cannot get into enough detail about how customizable CS4's export settings are. Simply put, there's nothing you can't do with them. CS4 probably supports more file formats than any other video editor out there. There was even a recent update that now gives it support for Final Cut files/projects. It's definitely the most efficient editor I've ever used, along with Final Cut (FC and CS4 are equally as good as one another, in my opinion). CS4 is available for both Windows and Mac. To put it lightly, this is the best professional video editor on the market.

  Adobes brilliant team has engineered well working media programs to become a worthless conglomeration of software. CRAP! I have 10 years using previous products without issue...and CS4 sucks in EVERY WAY!

  Summary

  the Encore module won't do what Encore 2 did flawlessly Premiere made my ystem crash! - Adobe has gone the way of microsoft here... bigger is the WORST...make a product work and leave it alone! Not Adobe...Save your money for other products that work and provide support...another thing Adobe hasn't a concept of!!
