March 19, 2015

 |  Version: Adobe Dreamweaver CC (2014.1)

Pros

1.Dreamweaver uses the designs created from either Photoshop or fireworks and creates appropriate HTML and CSS.
2.Code suggestion saves an incredible amount of time.
3.Dreamweaver offers code validation and accessibility checks assisting the user by making sure the codes are valid and reaches the required web standards

Cons

1.The interface is extremely confusing and it may take a new user a while to get the hang of it.

Summary

Adobe created an software which enables users to develop websites or applications on various devices whether its tablet, mobile etc. Dreamweaver is a a program like many others that contains some advantages and disadvantages from each users' interest. My aim is to identify these from my own experience in hope that maybe somehow my personal review can reach the people who made it, and place some improvements into the coming years. I will start off with on advantages Dreamweaver. A main fact I enjoy on dreamweaver is that it is connected to other Adobe programs such as Photoshop or fireworks used first to create a design for the web page then marges into dreamweaver. Dreamweaver uses the designs created from either photoshop or fireworks and creates appropriate HTML and CSS. Some other advantages about the program include; overal the HTML (HyperText Markup Language) in WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) mode are usable and it requires a simple strategy to change amongst code and WYSIWYG mode. It also has some useful tools such as code highlighting, to specify errors the user might have made. Code suggestion saves an incredible amount of time, which offers different tags the user can use. Code and Design view tab which allows the user to code and see what they are getting in the WYSIWYG mode, very helpful tool especially for beginners. Dreamweaver offers code validation and accessibility checks assisting the user by making sure the codes are valid and reaches the required web standards. In the properties bar tool makes creating HTML so much easier for the user. If a property within an existing web page changes in time the user is able to simply find and replace the certain element instead of scanning through all the pages. File manager is another incredibly useful tool keeping all files organised making it easy for the user to edit the web page. Now moving off to the disappointing facts about Dreamweaver, the interface is extremely confusing this may take a new user a while to get the hang of it. Simple elements like animation, code development etc., have to be found in other Adobe products. Dreamweaver all together takes an enormous amount of time to get used to, there's so many tools that must be used at different times during the creating process. Some codes in Dreamweaver are used in general purposes rather it designing a code for the specific purpose. The WYSIWYG mode the user isn't in full control of what is being created. There are some tabs I have never actually used before which I don't think is really necessary, too much information leaves the user overwhelmed. And my last and obvious point would be the cost for Dreamweaver, although you are able to download a 30 day free trial you are required to buy it afterwards which can get pretty expensive especially for students charging at least $20 AUD a month, and it is only available through Creative Cloud. Overall I am happy with Dreamweaver it is an awesome product that saves time and makes web development that much easier.
