Publisher's Description
From Limit Point Software:
AddMovie is an app utility for easily joining several files into one single movie, and performing the inverse operation of splitting a movie at select frame times into multiple movies. You can also use AddMovie to convert a set of movies to other formats.
Highlights:
- Combine movies, saving in various movie formats
- Create slide shows of pictures
- Modify duration of movies
- Batch export movies to various formats
- Add movie chapters
- Edit movies
- Play movies at arbitrary rates, including sound files
- Split movies at arbitrary points
- Set a movie's poster frame, and count frames
- Extract sound track into a sound file
- much more!
AddMovie imports all file formats supported by QuickTime. AddMovie outputs QuickTime (mov) file format, as well as exporting to other file formats provided by the QuickTime codecs on your system. Use the Preferences window to specify output options.
Various options are available in the Preferences window, such as: choosing export format, making a "self contained" (copy video and sound from all source movies) or "reference" movie (yielding a smaller movie file with dependencies), and chapterizing. Many more!
AddMovie is available on the Mac App Store.
AddMovie is a also member of the Limit Point Software Utilities Bundle : http://www.limit-point.com/Utilities.html. Purchase a Utilities password to activate all the utilities, including AddMovie. Updates are free, new products included.
What's new in this version:
- Reloading very large file lists can be time consuming, as a new movie is created for each file. An indeterminate progress indicator has been activated to provide additional feedback in the file list window as it works to reestablish the previous file list. (Remembering the file list is optional, select in Preferences.)
- Fixed an issue with the movie filter: for some movies the filter did not know it was at the end of the movie and you had to force ... See all new features

"Handy, works with and makes small files than iMovie"
Version: AddMovie 1.9.2
Pros
Lets you import, work with, and save files in formats that use less space than iMovie. FREE, unlike QuickTime Pro.
Cons
runs slowly and more likely to quit than iMovie and QT Pro.
Summary
I find it handy and keep it on my dock. I may be happier with it when I try it on my Intel based iBook.

I can't understand what all the moaners in this thread are on about. This product - like most of the stuff from Limit Point (with whom I have no connection) - addresses a simple problem and finds a simple solution. In particular, the combination of AddMovie and TransformMovie is invaluable for dealing with the sort of spur-of-the-moment digital camera sequences that are easy to take but can't be carefully prepared. And it hardly breaks the bank even if you make use of only one or two of the huge range of utilities that you get with a single $10 payment.
When I first made my donation I encountered a delay in response and felt temporarily aggrieved - but a one-man band needs a break sometimes! As soon as he returned Joe Pagliaro offered me other products for free as an apology for the brief delay. Here's a guy who seems committed to producing and improving worthwhile software: I for one am grateful to him. -
"Would be nice to use it..."

This is a good product. Does what it is advertised to do. My problem is not what the payment is called, rather the fact that when payment is made you do not get a permanent password. The application's demo period expires, it stops working, and then nobody supports the product. I've written a few e-mails to Joe about this, I have payment confirmation through PayPal. No answer.
My solution, use till demo period expires, then do not pay. Companies that treat their paying customers like this do not survive. My experience therefore may color my review of the program - overall, IT DOESN'T WORK! -
"focus please"
Version: AddMovie 1.5.8
Summary

It would be nice for the benefit of Version Tracker users, instead of obsessing about the exceptional licensing arrangements for the software, people would actually focus on the value and quality of it. Needless to say, I believe, this and the suite of related products is worth a lot more than the author requests as a reasonable donation. Best to find out for yourself.
I use them regularly and find these are going from strength to strength. -
"pedantic punctilious pontification"
Version: AddMovie 1.5.7

I have seen the feedback about the donation issue for this software and feel compelled to rise to the defense of the developer, who I do not know. Version tracker is a place people visit to find software for their needs and not to learn semantic subtleties.
There is much unnecessary criticism of this developer and his suit of excellent software.
No one can be in any confusion that they have to pay for this software and the developer offers an option of several fees on a sliding scale depending on how you feel about the software; a little bit like a tip you might leave after a meal in a restaurant.
I think it is a good system.
Some people use the term donation-ware to get around restrictions that would otherwise raise the cost to unfavorable levels.
By the way, we should ask Apple (and Micro$oft) to make their software bug proof and perfect before knocking the little guy doing his work for small rewards in the garage to benefit at least some users.
I am more than happy with the suit of the software from this developer that works as promised and deserves the donation that you are comfortable with. -
"Tsk, tsk, tsk...."
Version: AddMovie 1.4.3
Summary

I cannot even try a product that comes intentionally mislabeled. It is such an affront to the MacUser mentality. Although labeled as "Donationware", there is nothing in the description that suggest a limit on use until payment is made. Full disclosure or proper labeling is the only honorable way to go. -
"Nothing I didn't have..."
Version: AddMovie 1.2.2
Summary
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
It seems to be nothing more than a wrapper for QT Pro and cat.
I was looking for something to solve problems I was having with those. Unfortunately, I experienced the same problems with this.
Some files were broken, only one segment displayed. Audio problems and skipping.
It would be great if it actually brought something new to the table rather than just wrapping existing tools.
I could be useful to those who don't like the command line or have QTPro. And it is a good price point. -
"great"
Version: AddMovie 1.1.7

With exporting and flattening as options, AddMovie becomes a great time and space saver. Easy to use, excellent. The developer is very broad-minded: AddMovie has a future, I'm sure. -
"Great little app"
Version: AddMovie 1.0.2
Summary

Love this little utility; works as described. Would like to see a progress bar (combining two 650MB movies takes time and would like to know how it's going) and would like to have the option to NOT have the resulting movie open automatically.
Also, I've found that the Save As dialog doesn't work with Default Folder X's "Copy filenames in Save dialogs by clicking on them" function, which would be convenient. Doesn't even allow the pasting of text that's on the clipboard to be used as a file name, in fact. -
"Great program!"
Version: AddMovie 1.0

Very nice program!
I found you can mix file types, for example mov and wmv.
I have found, so far, it will work with avi, mov, mpg, wmv file types.
It also works with wav files!
I found you can mix files of different pixel size.
I agree it would be handy to be able to selectively remove files from the list.
