  This program takes-over the default app for many file types, and it does this every time I run the program! THe choice of a default app for any file type should be mine... not some crazed develpoer!

  Pros

  It plays videos. In my testing, 4k 60fps videos that could play in VLC also play in 5kplayer. Meanwhile, 4k videos that are choppy in VLC are still choppy in 5k player, but maybe a tiny bit better.

  Cons

  The software developer (Digiarty) uses user unfriendly practices that violate Apple's developer guidelines and make me as a user very nervous. These include: Changing the default application for handling of all media files to use 5kplayer without asking. Setting 5kplayer to launch upon login but not visible in the user list to remove. Intentionally making it very difficult to uninstall. The Mac will always report: "5kplayer can't be moved to the trash because it's open." even after you quit. The process names are obfuscated so you can't find them to force quit. Application opens a browser window upon first launch and goes to the developer's site if you don't fill out the registration.

  Summary

  I don't know what hidden functionality exists in 5kplayer, or why they make this software act so much like malware. I don't trust them and will no longer use Digiarty produced software. Instructions to uninstall: Right click (or control click) on the application Select Show Package Contents Delete the folder inside Delete the application Type Command-Shift-G Go to: ~/Library/ Open Application Support/Digiarty Delete the 5kPlayer folder inside Empty trash Reboot.

• Works well, but can't play Blu-ray DVD's

  Pros

  The player works well. It has some nice features, such as air-play. It can also take snap shots at any point on a video file, while it's being played.

  Cons

  Doesn't play my blu-ray discs like I thought it was supposed to. It also hijacked my use of Quick-Time player and became my default player. Now, in order to use it, or other video players, I have to do a 2-fingered tap (right-click for Macs) in order to be able to choose another player. I have tried to change the default player back to Quick-Time, but can't find a way to do that.

  Summary

  It works well, but the main reason that I wanted it was to play Blu-ray on my Mac, but I still have to use AnyMP4 free blu-ray player if I want to play them.
