This bare-bones video converter supplies neither the features nor the functionality to outdo its competitors. AVI MPEG Video Converter simply transforms clips among the two formats found in its title in addition to the WMV and RM codecs. The program's simplicity is echoed in its interface, which is just a small, pale yellow box with a few buttons and form fields. Immediately before the conversion process begins, you can specify attributes such as frame rate, bit rate, audio quality, and codec. However, you won't even find a preview window, much less more advanced utilities such as a splitter or joiner. However, this program's biggest downfall is that it only converts half of any given file, a restriction that hinders its usefulness in practical situations. Some users may appreciate this application's ease of use, but many more will demand something more powerful.

"Average converter: Nothing special"

Pros: Easy to use and can convert a number of video formats.

Cons: Slow and should also convert DVD files which it doesn't.
