• Perfect for my needs

  Vector drawing. Program requires a tiny amount of memory to load and run. Works on older version of Windows. Simple and intuitive interface for basic 2D CAD commands - no unwanted frills. Full Help provided. Can use X-Y coords. Dimensioning works.

  Don't know of any Cons at this stage. It does exactly what I need and want it to do.

  As a long time professional in communications (networking and such) I am a long time user of a wide range of software so have built up some expertise in using and adapting to new products. After using AutoCAD it was too expensive and was capable of much more than I needed. From that point and for years I used AutoDesk's Autosketch for site plans, cabling/power routing and equipment layout for computer/telephony/security network installations. Now I'm retired my needs are not so frequent. But when planning a house rewire and remodel and some cabinet making, I needed something to help me measure, price, plan and manage the work. Autosketch was discontinued years ago, so I tried commercial CAD software priced up to $200, but it was too unwieldy compared with my experience with Autosketch and even AutoCAD. I need software to be as intuitive to use as possible, to provide a rapid and simple means of obtaining the result I want. I don't want to spend a lot of time learning it, because my time is valuable to me. After I began using A9CAD I found it was a very worthy tool. I can focus on what matters to me without getting bogged down learning how to use it. I spent about 30 minutes going through the kinds of things I knew and expected that I would have to do, and it fulfilled all my requirements including the cost (free!). Five stars.

  Cannot array or copy and rotate No shortcut keys such as m for move and C for copy Line thickness difficult to manager

  Pros

  Has lots of AutoCAD 2D commands even with the same icons. You'll feel right at home if you've used AutoCAD R14, 2000, 2000i or 2002.

  Cons

  Not many negatives. Some could be fixed by purchasing the Pro version for $30.

  Pros

  The software looks and feels like a cut down AutoCAD. It only does 2D, but if you're happy with that and familiar with AutoCAD, you'll immediately know how to use this software. It has all the important features and is less bloated than Acad.

  Cons

  It took me 10 minutes to discover a deal breaking bug. Every time I try to move an object from one layer to another, A9CAD quits out. There's no error message it just vanishes. Maybe this is compatibility issue with my graphics card or something like that but it's pretty much unusable for me.

  Pros

  I was looking for a shareware program that would allow me to view and print AutoCad drawings produced by my civil engineering clients. This is a very neat program that satisfies all my requirements, and also allows me to edit and modify the drawings. This is an excellent find.
