  Pros

  Have been fighting budgeting for years and didn't know it. Try as hard as I could, I could not get out of paycheck to paycheck cycle. With the help of YNAB (You Need A Budget) I have gone from anxiously waiting for my next check to having a few thousand dollars saved while paying more toward my debts, in about four months. That was with no change in income. There is a fantastic forum to talk with other YNABer's, Great classes to get you started, both live and recorded. Can't say enough good things about it.

  Cons

  You do need a computer, laptop or desktop, to run it. You can run parts on other devices, like your phone, but need a computer to work with the program.

  Summary

  Have been working hard at cutting expenses, thought I had made some progress. Felt I had enough coming in but just could not figure out how to save. This program has helped me greatly. If you don't understand why you can't get ahead, this could quite possibly be what you are looking for. It was for me. Free trial for 30 days, and discount available when you visit the forum and ask. It will also help you get out of debt, if you need. Great program.

• Poor on Windows 8 tablet

  Pros

  - Budgeting system - android sync

  Cons

  - shortcut keys failed to work, re-opened program to fix - extremely small font when viewing on a tablet with a HI-RES screen (which is all tablets) - does not support dpi scaling - no windows 8 app - $ 60 too much for a very poor viewing experience on Windows 8 Pro tablet.

  Summary

  Simple, don't ignore Windows 8 tablet users and I'll give you a better rating
