This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.<br />A few days after installing WoWMatrix and using it to find Addons, my account was hacked. We're talking Mac here, not 'Doze. Even still, Blizz suggested that I might have a virus or keylogger, so to be careful, I checked and didn't have one. But I seriously? I never thought that's what happened. Best I can tell, there's no one to vet WoWMatrix's suggestions, so until I hear otherwise, I'm sticking with Curse. And an Authenticator :-)
Please research this program before downloading it.

This program, if it still works after the addon hosts it downloads from have tried to block it again, is very clean, neat, and fast. You never have to look at a file, read an author note, or google anything but the program.

People REALLY need to research this program. Who makes it? Where are they? Why are addon hosts and developers so upset with it? What are known flaws in this program? Why is it not open source? Install your own addons manually guys be safe and careful
Summary
I did some research and found this program is very questionable at best. People often defend this program saying 'they dont make any money' - take a good look at the 'Privacy Policy' on their website. Look at the ads. Theres no way they are a 'non profit' organization or 'don't make any money' from their software. Find out who the company is that made this, see what else they have made. Try to find contact info for the company. See also where they bought a 5% stock share of another company. This program does a lot of things the game vendor says is against terms of service, and while blizzard does not have the power to disable this program, I'm glad that the addon hosts it steals from are able to take a stand. Theres reasons why they are fighting to keep wowmatrix from stealing from them and their authors. Read about the other software that wowmatrix installs on your machine, check out the known exploits. Do your research guys, manually install your own addons so you KNOW what you are downloading. Ask the wowmatrix company some questions, see if they respond to anything (they have not responded to any of my questions at all). "The competitors should provide a comparable program" - why do you think you are entitled to everything for free at the click of a button? Theres a reason they want you to go to the site and haven't made a 'one click solves all' addon manager like this. "Theres no way this has viruses or keyloggers or trojans or anything like that" - do some research into curl and see for yourself where malicious software can come through WoWmatrix. "WoWMatrix is not in violation of blizzard's terms of service" - go ahead and pull up the policy for UI addons, and the terms of service, then pull up the 'Privacy Policy' for WoWMatrix. There are reasons that the site hosts and authors have been trying to block WoWMatrix for some time now, and when patch 3.1 hit, they employed some new methods to keep WoWMatrix from eating up all their bandwidth and leeching their resources. I hope WoWMatrix stays out of comission, and that this encourages people to follow safer practices: manually install your own addons, see what you are downloading, know where it came from and who made it!<br /><br /><span class='notifyMsg'> Updated </span>on Apr 17, 2009<p/>Oh another reccomendation... for those who say 'I have used this for quite some time, I have never had any viruses' - try searching for wowmatrix and the creator's company names in hijackthis logs.
