The ubiquity of computers in the workplace has created a legion of workers who spend long days typing and staring at screens, often to the detriment of their bodies and their productivity. Oh, we know we should take breaks to rest our eyes, wrists, and minds, but that's difficult to do when the work seems never-ending and deadlines are looming. WorkPace is an ingenious program that reminds--or forces--you to take periodic breaks, ensuring that both your mind and body have a chance to refresh themselves.

The program is extremely well-designed, and first-time users will find a thorough introductory video as well as a configuration wizard to help them get started. We especially liked the wizard, which asks users about their work habits and creates a schedule of breaks that best suits them. The program determined that given our particular work style, we should take a 7-second "micropause" every 6 minutes, and a 6-minute break every 50 minutes. Users can choose how strict they want the program to be; it can simply remind you that it's time to take a break, or it can lock your keyboard and force you to take one. The program also provides exercises that users can perform during their breaks, and daily and weekly time limits can be set on how much the user works. The program's built-in Help file is well-written and thorough. Overall, we were impressed with WorkPace; it's packed with features and is quite customizable, making it a serious asset for overworked computer users.

WorkPace has a 30-day trial period. It comes as a ZIP file but installs and uninstalls without issues. We recommend this program to all users.

WorkPace is a break and exercise software tool that helps users 'pace their work' with micro pauses, regular break and exercises. It prevents computer users from developing RSI and other symptoms from computer use (eyestrain, neck and forearm pain, etc). You can monitor and report on all aspects of computer use including laptop usage and application usage. Settings can be customized to your own needs and you can record and analyze statistics on computer use. WorkPace provides on-screen feedback on work intensity and break compliance to encourage self-management of workload. It supports network installation and organization wide implementation and reporting.
