Whitepages for iOS

Whitepages enables you to identify unknown callers and, when necessary, report them as spammers or scammers. You can also blacklist unwanted callers so they can't get through to you anymore.

Pros

Easy setup: Sign in with your Facebook or email log-in. Allow access to your Contacts, and Whitepages ID will create a new entry in your Contacts that's used to flag unwanted calls as they come in. Get a verification code by SMS, then input it, and you're good to go.

Reverse phone lookup: Whitepages provides you with Caller ID info for unknown numbers. To get this info, you must first search the number in your recent calls list, tap the info icon, copy the number with a tap and hold, and then launch Whitepages ID to see their name. You'll also get their address and learn whether the number has been flagged as spam or whether any community reports have been filed against it. You can also report or blacklist the number.

Regular updates: Because scammers and spammers regularly change their numbers to avoid blocking, Whitepages regularly updates its list of undesirable numbers, so these individuals remain blocked.

Calling in app: You can easily make calls in Whitepages -- just start typing a number or the numerical version of your contact's name, and Whitepages will pull up a list of corresponding contacts and their phone numbers. Click the one you want, and the app will call them.

Spam-check dialer: If you choose to call an unrecognized number back, you'd better call from the app. If spam is detected, you will be alerted immediately.

Cons

Erroneous Caller ID info: When we looked up a random sampling of known contacts' numbers, we were displeased that the Caller ID info on them was incorrect.

Bottom Line

Whitepages is a great app in theory. But if the Caller ID info is often incorrect, then the app won't be very useful in practice.
