Weblock - ad blocker for apps and websites for iOS

Weblock removes ads and banners on websites in Safari and other browsers by routing all your traffic through a proxy. After setting up your filters, you will be given a link to paste into your proxy settings on your device to activate the service.

Pros

Filters: Weblock comes with over 200 filters that include generic ad services as well as social tie-ins like Google, Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn.

Whitelist and blacklist: You can allow certain websites to show ads while blocking others completely.

Buy once, use everywhere: Due to its mode of operation, you don't need to have Weblock installed on all your devices in order to use it. Entering your unique URL on another device, even if it's running on a different network or operating system, will have the same effect. You can even use it on your desktop.

Cons

Always-on proxy: By using this service, all of your traffic will be sent to Weblock's servers, making it inherently insecure. We strongly advise you to turn off your proxy in Settings before entering any sensitive information like credit card numbers or your name and address.

Involved setup: Due to Apple's security model, a vital part of the setup -- setting up the proxy -- cannot be automated.

Slower speeds: Since all traffic is being routed through Weblock's servers, your Internet speed will depend on the servers' load. There may be a noticeable slowdown.

Bottom Line

Weblock offers an ad-free Web experience, but the price is a compromised security. If you often make purchases on your phone or tablet, you should think twice before using this app, or at least turn the proxy service off whenever you shop online.
