This utility for downloading Web sites suffers from too many performance and stability problems to earn much of our praise. Web Dumper's clear-cut interface lets you grab all elements on a page by simply entering a URL and pressing a button. A large window displays all downloaded and queued files. Clicking the Preferences tab lets you specify what types of files to include or exclude and how many simultaneous connections to allow. When tested with simple text-heavy sites, Web Dumper performed decently, though it lost some elements such as buttons. However, the utility had much difficulty when working with JavaScript-based sites and exhibited some major instability. In one instance, Web Dumper told us a fully functional site was an invalid URL; in another, it crashed when we tried to download a site using a hot key. Although it looks promising, we can't strongly recommend this program until it runs a lot more smoothly.
What’s new in version 3.3.4
Version 3.3.4 fixes related to the chunked transfer encoding handling and better handling of server cached pages.
I tried WebSlinky 1.3 Build 105 & Web Dumper 2.2.3 & SuperBot 4.6. The first two failed to download all the files on a simple mostly-text site properly, failing to capture the contents of at least one of the subdirectories. WebSlinky seemed pretty immature, with a very rudimentary user interface. It failed to download files with first space (%20) in the file name. Web Dumper had a little more-developed UI, but still didn't get the download right. Of the spiders I tried, only SuperBot worked correctly. It downloaded everything correctly and reset the links to work in the download. It is a little expensive, but it works, unlike Web Dumpster.
Save entire Web sites to your hard drive for offline viewing.Web Dumper automatically downloads HTML documents along with their embedded pictures, sounds, and movies, while it screens them to look for any enclosed links to other documents. Web Dumper lets you select which kinds of file you want to be dumped between more than 60 available standard types, the folder depth level, how links must be processed and if it must re-link your HTML documents for offline browsing.
