Not free - Just a *trial*

Rated very high for security. Passed many leakage tests.
Cons
"VyprVPN Free Account" is misleading. You do NOT get a limited quota that is renewed each month. You get a *ONE-TIME* allocation. When used up, the "free" account is dead. It is their deliberate misrepresentation to lure users into using their service and then cut it off knowing some customers will submit into paying for their service. According to their FAQ dated January 2016, you used to receive a one-time 1GB quota. Their blog dated April 2016 says that was reduced to a one-time 500MB quota. Notice the use of the term "one-time". You get that quota when you open a "free" account and when it is used up then that is the end of the so-called free account. What they are offering is a TRIAL account that terminates when the fixed quota gets consumed (rather than termination by date). It should be called "VyprVPN Trial Account". Free and Trial are NOT the same thing. Free[ware] continues. Trials end.
Summary
If you are looking for a free VPN, this is not one. It is a *trial* VPN. They give you 500MB, you get to test, and when the quota is consumed then your "free account" is dead. Misuse of the term "free" is rampant in Internet. This is akin to saying "free download" but the software itself is not free, just the download (well, except you have to pay for Internet service). I was reviewing many "free" VPNs. Some are not very secure. Many get bad scores at VirusTotal.com. Some don't even encrypt. Some inject ads into delivered content. And some are fake to get your money and run. VyprVPN was rated very highly and passed several tests for leakage. I'm not looking for a high-volume VPN provider as my web surfing on my smartphone is miniscule. All I needed was a limited *monthly* [renewing] quota for my use of a VPN. VyprVPN states they only give you a one-time quota. Use it and then lose it.
