This free application lets you adjust your system's volume, though its chief function comes standard in most operating systems. Rather than having an interface, VolumeTouch places an icon in your system tray. You'll be able to open the Windows sound recorder and the audio properties dialog box, and the program it offers mouse controls and hot-key combinations to control your speaker's volume, though neither worked during our trial. You can also mute your volume and change the program's icon to another image. Since most operating systems come with built-in volume controls that work much better than VolumeTouch's, we don't see any advantage to downloading this program.
Windows volume control: Click icon. Wait for the slider to appear. Aim for, grab slider. Slide it.
Volume touch? Press Ctrl+Shift, spin mouse wheel. Awesome.
A faster way to change the volume
emowgli
Pros
fast and ergonomic, great for speeders
Cons
-requires 16 MB RAM (but won't be a problem if you have a good computer...)
<p>-it's useless for users like my parents
Summary
nice, but not perfect
M3 CSL
Pros
Cons
- hot keys not customizable
<p>- mouse wheel sensitivity not changable
<p>- needs Microsoft .NET Framework: comparatively slow start and requires about 16 MB RAM
Summary
Nice
Kortoth
Pros
It *does* have it's uses.
Cons
Summary
Nice software if you need absolute control over your volume.
CableguyTK
Pros
Its free.
<p>Great for people who either 1) have speakers with no volume dials and are lazy and dont want to deal with Windows Volume Controls, 2) use headphones with the same issues as in #1, 3) don't have a media keyboard with volume controls on them, 4) or are just generally lazy and dont want to move their hands at all.
Cons
Pretty much useless if you have a laptop, since most laptops give you a function (FN) key which when used in conjunction with usually the F11 and F12 keys control the volume...at least that is how it is on my laptop.
<p>Not really useful for people who have volume dials on their speakers.
Summary
it's of nearly no use (to me and i guess not just me)...
harl
Pros
the only two things it does are that it
<p>1) includes an additional mute independent from the muting of windows' sndvol32.exe and
<p>2) gives option to press one of three key combinations (like Shift+Ctrl) and use the mouse wheel or move the mouse vertically or horizontally to change volume.
<p>
<p>installing/deinstalling, starting/stopping and running/using the program didn't cause any problems i know of.
Cons
but even the things it does, it does them too badly to recommend it as a useful program, it's neither too comfortable nor versatile and it's absolutely NO (full-featured) replacement for windows' volume control, not to forget the 11 MB of RAM (+105 MB virtual memory) it uses up (for what again ??).
<p>
<p>however, i wonder what it's really good for then..
Summary
Useless.

Pros
No pros. It accomplishes nothing at all.
Cons
This is an absolutely useless program. It only provides an alternate icon to click on in order to access sound adjustment controls that can already be accessed just as easily by clicking on the already-existing volume icon in the tray. The program actually has no function. It does not provide any volume control or other sound control of its own; the user must click on the icon, then Windows sound controls appear. This is no more convenient than clicking on the Windows volume icon, the speaker icon. Volume Touch is a pointless program.
