Turn any computer with Microsoft Windows 7 or Windows 2008 R2 into a Wi-Fi Hot Spot.
Virtual Router is a free, open source software based router for PCs running Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2. Using Virtual Router, users can wirelessly share any internet connection (Wifi, LAN, Cable Modem, Dial-up, Cellular, etc. ) with any Wifi device (Laptop, Smart Phone, iPod Touch, iPhone, Android Phone, Zune, Netbook, wireless printer, etc.) These devices connect to Virtual Router just like any other access point, and the connection is completely secured using WPA2 (the most secure wireless encryption.)

Pros
Like the title says - it is exceedingly simple. Install, run, choose a network name and password and just go. Too easy.
Cons
It is a bit too simple. You can not change the channel it is using, you have very little control on how it is operating. I am still running version 0.9, the beta version, and it isn't always the most stable, but a restart, or disabling and re-enabling the wifi will usually solve any hiccups.
Summary
For what I needed it for (allowing various wireless devices an access point when I was in an ethernet-only accessible area, it was exactly what I needed. If you need something more full-featured, get an actual router.
SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
winston3338
Pros
None, it's not worth it
Cons
This version is out of date so when you update at the creators site the paypal donation window jumps out at you. Between here and they I picked up a tool bar that started popping up windows trying to sell me something. I also had a smiley/emotions program and according to IObt Uninstaller it added 640 registry changes to my computer.
Summary
would not work for me

Pros
Easy set-up, create a password, and you're good to go.
Cons
No cons that I know of so far
Summary
Virtual Router is exactly what I needed to get a wifi connection for my iPod Touch (2nd gen) at home. Usually, I'd have to take it to work and use the free wifi there, but I'm not always at work. The only trouble I had with VR was the password because I wasn't sure if I had to type a pre-existing password or create my own. To save future users the trouble, create your own password. Then, I just had to turn on wifi in the iPod's Settings and type in that password. I cannot believe it was this easy! Thank you Virtual Router developer(s)!
Shite. Router doesn't open.
scuzzmonster
Pros
None whatsoever.
Cons
Just wasted half an hour of my life installing and uninstalling the software.
