When releasing videos, you often find yourself with precise requirements on either actual file size or quality. To lend you a hand in such tasks or for analyzing your exported videos, VideoSpec for Mac is a useful and feature-packed toolset built upon open-source libraries and utilities.

VideoSpec for Mac performs the tasks of a video analyzer. It will let you inspect every video property you might be interested in. On launch, simply drag a video onto the main window, and all the information relevant to codecs used, bit rate, resolution, size, compression, and much more will be displayed for both audio and video. No more jumping through hoops between VLC and QuickTime to get partial and badly presented information. VideoSpec is more convenient and as precise. It is also packed with tools like a time code calculator, a size estimator that takes bit rate as input, and a ratio tool, and it can check the compatibility of a given video with any iDevice. A nice addition is the ability to export a text report that you can pack with your videos to offer more information to your users. The software is built upon standard open-source libraries and utilities so it should be able to tackle every kind of video you have. Although it works well in most cases, we encountered some errors with the .mkv format that prevented any information from being displayed.

VideoSpec for Mac lets you check all parameters regarding your videos and supports a large number of formats. It mostly works well, it's open source, and it's perfect for users releasing videos in any channel other than the video streaming sites.
