Simple, efficient, and unexciting as a gray flannel suit, Video/Audio To MP3/WAVE Converter is all business. True to its name, it converts audio files to MP3 or WAV format and extracts audio from movies. The homely main window contains a few self-explanatory buttons and controls, and a handful of options under the Settings menu let you configure the bit rate, channels, mode, and the sample rate. Conversion is as simple as clicking the WAV or MP3 button and selecting a file. In our tests, the program processed a three-minute file in no more than 10 seconds, which is mighty fast. On the other hand, the lack of a batch mode and the $29.95 price are serious drawbacks. Video/Audio To MP3/WAVE Converter has good performance going for it, but we'd shop around before committing any cash.

didn't work... also made my computer strain really hard

Pros
Cons
I tried to convert a pretty big file and it said it was extracting, but an hour and a half later, nothing happening, I canceled and it froze up. So I tried a smaller file. Twenty minutes later it still just said it was extracting... no progress bar or anything, so I canceled and it froze up. By this time, and after closing it twice with Task Manager, my computer was working so hard, whining so loudly, I thought it was about to blow, so I shut it down.
Summary
can use once only

Pros
It can convert a 80MB RMVB file to WAV in a minute using an old PC with a PII CPU.
Cons
It can let me convert the RMVB file once only, and then corrupts both in XP SP2 and Win98 SE.

I won't take this, as it will just waste my money!
Summary
Excruciatingly simple to use. Nicely basic.

Pros
Easy to use. Very user friendly. Was able to convert my audio dvd files to mp3 without even having to read instructions. Converted a half-hour file in less than a minute, AND it is supported by Sonic Stage, meaning I can finally make full use of my Sony Network Walkman mp3 player (which seems to be finicky in which programs it chooses to recognize for conversion purposes.) Not cluttered with a lot of unnecessary frills - a basic, workmanlike product that does its job well.
Cons
Summary

Pros
it worked
Cons
it took a LONG time to convert a WAVE to a MP3, it was a 4&1/2 min song, i'd HATE to see how long a movie would take!
