Editors’ Review
UberEats for Android brings you the food you're craving from a variety of restaurants as fast as a speeding Uber.
Pros
Easy setup: Sign up with your Uber account and gain access to UberEats. Allow the app access to your location and it'll show you restaurants nearby.
Easy-to-navigate homepage: UberEats' homepage defaults to restaurants near you that are available for delivery or pickup ASAP. (You can change this by tapping the drop-down button on the top left adjacent to your delivery timeframe and location.) Scroll down to view restaurants under headings like Popular Near You, New on UberEats, and More Restaurants. Under the first two, you can just swipe to the left to see more options. Under More Restaurants, just scroll down for more.
Or search for a specific eatery, item, or cuisine type: If you already know exactly what you want, tap the magnifying glass on the bottom rail to search by keyword in the top search bar; by Top Categories, such as American, Asian, Chinese, Sushi, Japanese, Breakfast and Brunch, Burgers, Italian, Thai, and Vegetarian Friendly; or by More Categories to browse 72 additional categories divided by dietary restrictions, such as Gluten Free Friendly and Vegan Friendly or cuisines as basic as American and Fast Food to as exotic as Lebanese and Filipino foods or specific items, such as Wings, Pizza, Burritos, Burgers, Sushi, and Ice Cream.
Powerful search filters: On any search results listing page, you'll notice a filter button on the top right that when tapped enables you to sort by Recommended, Most popular, Rating, and Delivery time. You can also narrow down by Price (one to four dollar signs) and Dietary restrictions, such as Vegetarian, Vegan, Gluten-free, and Halal.
A wide variety of restaurants: UberEats offers delivery from a wide breadth of restaurants: fast food and chain favorites to hip local eateries.
Mouthwatering photos: UberEats does a great job of upping your appetite with beautifully shot drool-inducing food photos of many of the items on offer.
Groceries, too: If you're in the mood to prepare a meal, yourself, then tap the Grocery tile or search for Grocery and you'll see a list of grocery stores that you can order from on UberEats.
Robust business info: When viewing businesses in search results, you'll see a gorgeous tile photo, category, cost, star rating and review number, and estimated delivery time. Tap to open a particular listing, and you'll immediately see a menu search button and recommended items. Scroll down to see the menu divided into subsections, such as Appetizers, Entrees, and Beverages, as they would appear on a restaurant menu. You'll also notice these subsections appear as subheadings up top that you can swipe and tap on to get right to those sections.
Easy ordering: Tap to add an item or items to your cart. Then tap View Cart, and you'll see your delivery address, an estimated delivery time, and your final order price including tax and delivery fee. Tap Place Order to easily pay with your Uber account, or add a credit card.
Real-time tracking: Follow along as your meal is prepared and then heads your way with real-time tracking in the app.
Available in most major U.S. cities: UberEats is available in Atlanta, Austin, Baltimore, Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Los Angeles, Miami, Nashville, New Orleans, New York, Philadelphia, San Diego, San Francisco, Seattle, Washington D.C., and many more cities. Not sure if UberEats is available in your city? Head here (https://about.ubereats.com/en/cities/) for the most up-to-date list of all the cities UberEats serves.
Available worldwide: Unlike some restaurant delivery services that are only available in the U.S., UberEats also enables you to order delivery in Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, China, Colombia, France, India, Japan, Mexico, New Zealand, Poland, Russia, Singapore, South Africa, South Korea, Spain, Taiwan, Thailand, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, and more.
Cons
Costly booking fees: The booking fees for UberEats, around $5 for the restaurants we tested, are not cheap (especially when coupled with tacked-on extra fees for busy areas where UberEats has to pay drivers more to get them on the road last minute) and tips.
Bottom Line
UberEats for Android has a lot to recommend it, from its easy navigation and excellent search filters to its large variety of available restaurants, easy ordering, and worldwide availability. But the booking fees, especially during busier times, may be cost prohibitive for some users.
