This Windows add-on securely deletes files to Department of Defense standards, but lacks an interface for mass or targeted deletions. TrueEraser is a shell extension for the Windows Explorer context menu. The utility merely adds two cleaning options when you right-click a folder or a file. You choose to either delete "fast" or delete "hard." The program doesn't explain the difference between the two or offer any help information. TrueEraser has no interface to allow users to delete multiple files based on extensions or other variables. It also lacks a help file to help novices understand DOD standards or the two options. Our tests found some stability issues on some XP installs. Despite its issues, this simple and effective file shredder would benefit all security-minded users.
