TranslateIt Deluxe Widget for Mac's clean interface makes translating words from English, German, French, Spanish, and Russian fast and easy, although it stumbled with blocks of text. The widget doesn't come with any dictionaries but the user can download all they need from the developer's Web site.

TranslateIt Deluxe Widget for Mac unzips and installs to the user's dashboard, where it functions as a useable widget that may be positioned according to the user's preference. The application is basic and the interface reflects that. Users add dictionaries by clicking the information icon located on the bottom right of the widget. To translate a word, type the word into the text box and then click the TI icon to translate it. At times, the application seemed to fail to load the appropriate dictionary, randomly resulting in no translated output. However, when the application functioned properly, the output was correct. The program accurately translated some basic words such as love, woman, cat, dog, clock, etc., used for testing from English to other languages. However, it couldn't really translate any complex phrases or any sentences.

TranslateIt Deluxe Widget for Mac will be useful for users needing a quick resource for translating individual words from one language to another, such as from English to Spanish, German, Russian, or French. Downloading the free desktop version of this application gives users access to additional features, including options to display search history and the ability to enable and disable dictionaries. While, overall, the program performed adequately and without crashes, it seemed quite limited compared to other free translator tools such as Google Translator, which are much more effective in translating multiword phrases or sentences.

Crashes to often; not free as expressed either

Couldn't find any as I was disappointed with this application.
Cons
can only look up one word at a time rather than a phrase or whole sentence. Most of the time, it crashed before I could even get it to work for me.
Summary
I was very disappointed w/this application. I downloaded it because it was free ware. Somehow, I kept getting mixed messages that I had to pay for the deluxe version that I was supposedly using. I trashed it, down loaded it again, got the same messages. So what gives? When I did get it stable, I discovered that I could only look up one word at a time. This totally defeated my purpose. No where in the Developer's. info or application help page does it mention that one could only type in one word at a time. What's the use then of this type of application? It serves no purpose. For the record: I was using this app on my iBook PPC G4, running Tiger (10.4.11). I gave up on this application, even after having installed it much earlier, after about two weeks. I really needed an application that could translate English.-Spanish sentences and/or phrases and not word by word. I've since had to go to the internet to find something that will help me.

Finally figured out where to get the dicts (see other commentary, below), and how to install them, but not exactly sure if I'd done it right, because there are a few different possibilities. 3. Tried the widget: slow as molasses; gets parts of words first, only then getting the whole thing (e.g. for "tomato", it first gets "to", only then going on to the complete word.) 4. only good point: the translation is finally correct, and seemingly complete, if you've got the patience. This is v. 2.1.0; I'd hate to think what the earlier versions were like. My advice: use your dictionary (book!). It's far faster and less frustrating. Or wait for a later version - much later.

There is no link in the widget itself to download or install additional dictionaries, and none are included. So overall, it is useless as it is.

Use CMD-R on TranslateIt! Widget for reloading the dictionaries list. The TI Widget supports many instances (every instance with own dictionary). Full TranslateIt! application installation is recommended also.
