From the developer: "The TomaWeb Image Mapper is a utility that allows you to easily create area maps for the graphics on your website. Features include zoom, HTML code generation and more. It's fully functional and FREE!."
Without reading any instructions, I was able to figure out how to use it.
Cons
If there are a lot of close areas to be mapped, it can be hard to see where one starts and the other stops. Also, there is no way to edit the running or completed HTML result, unless you copy-and-paste it into your web page.
Summary
Although TomaWeb Image Mapper could benefit from some minor improvements in functionality, it is simple and easy-to-use software, and does exactly what I needed (I can't imagine how long it would have taken me to do this, manually!).

Good little product, simple and effective.

Pros
It's striaght to the point. Read the like 3 paragraph help file on how to use the program and you'll be mastering mapping in no time. It's fairly accurate and you can map some pretty small area's with a fair amount of accuracy. It's free, no nag.
Cons
Not a whole lot of features. Does not include the <map> opening tag.
Summary
If all you need is a image mapping tool this is your product. There is no nag or trail software involved and it's simple and straight forward.
good, simple program

Pros
This is a very simple program that is easy to use and gets the job done.
Cons
It does have an ad banner at the bottom, but it doesn't really effect anything it's just there.

This simple tool does one job, and does it well

Pros
Image Mapper exists to do exactly one thing: produce the "coords" attribute of an "area" element. If you don't know what this means, you don't need this tool. If you do know what this means, and don't want to spring for a full-featured web image optimizer, this'll do the job just fine. <p>Anyone savvy enough with html to need this tool will find the interface simple and easy. Basically, you open an image (jpeg or gif only), and click on it to define a shape. Then you click on the arrow button to give the shape a name, and Image Mapper generates its area element. Hit another button and it produces a well-formed html snippet of the src element and the map element, with no deprecated attributes or elements to edit out. That's what it does; that's all it does.<p>One thing I particularly like is that it does not require you to actually place the image in the location given by the src element. After all, this is a tool for creating page content that does not yet exist!
Cons
Once you define a polygon you cannot edit it. You can, however, delete it with a single keystroke, and then redefine it. No big deal.<p>There's a bigger problem with the html snippet it generates. While it is clean and lowercased, it does not allow for alt attributes, and it does not give you a chance to specify xhtml rather than html. This means that the snippet will not validate in xhtml unless you manually insert a space-slash at the end of each and every area tag. As these important features would have been easy to program in, Image Mapper looses a star for their omission.
Summary
Been usin it for years. It just works

Pros
Just select the desired area and copy-paste. Yoy don't need anything else.
Cons
Summary
Interface is impossible, especially for such a simple app.

Pros
None of the features of this product seem to be usable. So there is nothing good to say about it.
Cons
The HTML window makes no sense. It has an edit button yet is not editable. There is HTML hidden away that you can't see until you click a certain button. If you try to edit that hidden HTML it will ask you to save it. Why save it? -------- I expect to be able to simply specify a URL box by a click & drag operation. that isn't the way it works though. I havn't tried the polygon or circle objects but its a safe assumption that having a root canal would be more fun than using them.
<p>---
<p>When one has existing map code, you would expect to be able to copy & paste it, after which the URL shapes should show up. That isn't the way it works. I wasn't able to load up my existing image map. I think this program requires a degree in telepathy because you are expected to know all the authors ridiculous ways of using the features.
<p>---
<p>When one draws a URL shape on the screen, an irritating box pops up asking to enter in data. I guess some people who like popup ads may want to do that, but I do not want to. I should be able to enter in the URL data whenever I want without being nagged about it. Obviously shapes without data should be colored differently than shapes with data. But the boxes are not colored so you don't get any information about anything just by looking at the URL shapes.
<p>---
<p>Lets say you want to crop the image. Well you are going to have to start all over, entering all your data and all the shapes all over again, which of course could easily take an hour total.
<p>---
<p>There is no reasonable way to drag image pieces along with the URL shape encasing it. It takes a lot of work for a little accomplishment.
<p>---
<p>This "free" app costs users hours of pointless work.
<p>---
<p>And finally, the download.com review system is piss poor. 1 star. They don't tell you when you hit your limit and they con you into thinking you can write paragraphs when they delete the space! Morons.
Summary
Gets the job done...
MYVisbuttsecks
Pros
TomaWeb Image Mapper may not be poised to take the image mapping software world by storm, but it gets the job done easily enough. Contrary to some of the other reviewers' comments, this program is not adware and will not damage your computer.
Cons
Fairly unattractive interface... takes few moments to fully grasp use of the tools. Auto-HTML generator also doesn't include opening {map} tag, so webmasters will want to include it manually.
