Open Source; you can edit the games source code and get recognized for bringing new features, Backed by a Splendid community, Ability to write in-game scripts to help Empire development, Major goal of the project is to promote the Perl scripting language, Alliances and Space Stations that allow you to seize stars, Buildings that allow you to change the face of the expanse (its awesome trust me :D), A huge selection of ships to build, Massive tech tree, Regular bug fixes and updates.
Cons
PvP battles discouraged by the community, Combat is unbalanced between experienced and new players. Long build/upgrade times
Summary
This is Iris. Overall TLE is a very great game. The only game of its kind to go open source and promote such a beautiful scripting language like Perl. Being backed by a good community and the game concepts user-friendly it is very easy to jump in game. You can join alliances and manage Space stations that can seize hundreds of stars. There are special buildings as well. And the game is also driven by a active Trading System. Combat is mainly discouraged by the community (though it is very well developed and can be utilized in many various ways) and this can push some 'agressive' players away. I can't reccomend this game to someone who likes to be the, "conquer all" player. But it is definitely a game for those who are chilax people and like to stay active in their gaming community. If you fear war, well don't, because almost everyone here is helpful. Though the major drawbacks on combat, the Pros to this game really make up for that. There are planets to colonize, stars to seize, and alliances to form! Please come play Lacuna Expanse today!

Easy to learn. Great depth, so many facets. Incredibly friendly community. Many styles of play available. Scripting allowed.
Cons
Immense, you will have a couple questions in the beginning, but complete the tutorial, and you'll be hooked, besides don't the best games require figuring a thing or two out :)
