Accessing all accessible temperature sensors on your Mac is very useful if you're trying to find out why your computer hangs after some hours of usage or when under some heavy load. Temperature Monitor for Mac displays the temperature of every component within your Mac in an easy-to-read format.

This app comes in a small 3.3MB package, which you can download for free. Installation is straightforward and simple and there are additional drivers/software also included in the installer. Upon your first launch, Temperature Monitor for Mac will scan your computer and display all the information that it gathers. The app allows you to export readings and results to a simple text file for you to use as a reference. There are also other features such as system information and history tabs that make this app a great all-around system utility. The option to configure your layout and show and hide different windows is a great feature, too. If you feel like the app is taking up too much space, simply close all the windows and leave it running in the background, as you will still be able to access it via the menu icon.

None. I have to enter ten characters but there's nothing else to say.
Cons
Doesn't tell you if you are in danger. No alarm or warning. Just gives you numbers. So I know a certain component is currently 140 degrees. Is that high? Low? Will an alarm go off if it gets high? If they can make apps that beep warnings when I have a dentist appointment, why can't they make apps that beep warnings if your computer is overheating?

I've been using this since being the proud owner of a MDD G4 (dual 1.42s). It's always worked beautifully, telling me everything I needed to know about temps in the computer while idle or under load. I've also used this on PowerBooks, MacBooks, iBooks (the laptop, not the iPad app), iMacs/eMacs, Mac Minis, other PowerMacs, Mac Pros, and Hackintoshes; the number of sensors this app will find will vary, depending on your hardware. As for installing a driver to read Intel processor temps - the Intel processor KEXTs in OS X don't actually read the processor temp, from what I've been able to ascertain. Therefore, Temperature Monitor need to install this driver to read the temperature from the on-die thermometers.

Why would you need to update drivers for Intel CPUs (first question the softw asks when loaded... considering Apple has used nothing BUT Intels for years? It's absurd. This app should not require you to enter admin ID+password, there's no reason why it might need this kind of clearance.

I can see all temps on my imac.Very useful as i have had the same issues as the other reviewer here.I like to watch what my microwave oven is doing under load in case of burn out as reported by other imac users.I can now take regular screen shots of how it is performing.

I have Temperature Monitor installed as a backdrop screen display on my Quad Core i5 iMac, 2.5 GHz, 16GB RAM, OSX 10.7.3. I monitor the temperatures at 2-second intervals with as many sensors as possible because the Quad Core i5 iMac is very tightly packaged, internal air flow seems marginal at best, and temperatures soar when all CPUs are under 100% load for extended periods. You will be shocked how hot Macs get even under modest loads for a short period. I use Temperature Monitor in conjunction with Bresink's Hardware Monitor because I need to know that my computer is working optimally. And, I need to know immediately when a computer is getting too hot and I need to adjust fan speeds. Recently my iMac was registering a higher than normal secondary heatsink temperature, without load. Two weeks later, the LCD display began displaying persistent dark smudges. After AppleCare replaced the LCD, Temperature Monitor showed heatsink temperatures up to 10C lower.

Simple to set up and use, has expanded ability to graph reading so you can see what is happening in real time. Ability to log a wide range of component temperatures, good colour contrast possible between targets. good audio warnings, a nice touch.

None really as the program did much more than I expected.

Temperature Monitor is an application to read out all accessible temperature sensors in Macintosh computers. The program can display and visualize the values measured by Mac OS X in a large variety of fashions. Among others, the following operations are supported:

display in a default window
output in a screen display in front or in the background of the screen
tabular display in an overview window
display in the menu-bar
display in the Dock icon
graphical display of short-term and long-term history curves in an unlimited number of windows
speech output
display of minimum and maximum values
export to text or CSV files

Moreover, the application can display additional technical information about your computer. Among other information this includes processor type, processor and bus frequencies, and manufacturing information.

The application can read out the data only if your computer is equipped with the necessary sensors, and if Mac OS X can access them without needing third-party device drivers. Starting in summer 2002, Apple has begun to massively drive forward the use of monitoring probes in the PowerMac series, the Xserve series, and in portable computers. Some models are equipped with 38 and more sensors.

Temperature Monitor tries to detect all sensors on as many Macintosh computer types as possible. However, a prediction which sensors are available in which models is not possible, because Apple very often releases "silent product updates", where the hardware equipments of some models are changed but the names are not. The particular graphics card, hard disk configuration and operating system version is also important.
