When working in a dark environment, some users may find their screen to be too bright even when the brightness is already on the lowest setting. With Screen Shades for Mac, users will now be able to fine-tune their Mac's brightness even more.

Screen Shades for Mac is very basic freeware. The app is small in size and the installation only took a few seconds to complete. Upon launching the app, a menu will pop up, allowing the user to turn on the effect, which will add a tint and darken the screen of their Mac. Right below the on/off switch is a slider, which you use to adjust the tint and brightness to their desired level. The app comes with four default tint colors, but users can add their own tint by using the built-in color picker tool. However, the app will only allow one custom tint. Despite that, the app does what it's supposed to and offers an easy-to-understand interface.

For users who often work in a dark environment or simply have sensitive eyes, Screen Shades for Mac could definitely be a lifesaver. It works well and comes free of charge.

Wish I had known about it years ago

Pros
So simple, yet I use it all the time. Was just thinking I love it so much I should write a review somewhere. When I'm on the computer late at night and the lights are all out, the normal dim setting on my mac is blindingly bright! Screen shade actually does dim it to the perfect shade. At first it seems suddenly so dim, but once your eyes adjust it's pretty darn good.
Cons
None I can think of, and the other reviewer on here talking about contrast and colours and stuff.... I didn't have any issues with my mac, and even if i did i'd rather see less depth and contrast and stuff than get a migraine in 2 minutes.
Summary
If you haven't got anything like this on your computer yet, and you use your computer a lot in dark light settings you will not regret this download.

Screen Shades is a utility to help users with sensitive eyes. Screen Shades can be used with one or two displays. With Screen Shades you can tint the display with five tints (gray, blue, yellow, pink, and My Tint, a color selected from the Colors window by the user). The Control Panel provides a drop-down menu to select the tint, a slider to control the amount of the tint and a checkbox to turn the effect on/off. The Control Panel may be dragged out of the way on the desktop and minimized. Control Panel settings and position are saved between sessions.
