This widget lets you use your computer keyboard as a piano keyboard. It gives a range of 3 octaves (1 1/2 on either side of middle C). It was originally made for singers, but should also be useful for composers, musicians, &c. The widget adapts itself to any keyboard layout. This is shareware with a 30-day trial period.
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
Downloaded and installed widget on my MacBook Pro; then used Amnesty Singles to generate a stand-alone app from the widget. So far, functions perfectly. It not only simulates (or assigns) pitches to the keyboard, it will also sustain a pitch if the given key is held down. In addition, I find the interface to be very attractive. Only one glitch: attempting to close the app using COMMAND-Q plays the pitch assigned to that key rather than quitting the application. (Then again, developer probably never intended widget to be used as a stand-alone app. So I have close it by CONTROL-clicking on its icon in the dock instead.) However, as a professional singer, I suspect this little widget/application is going to prove invaluable.
