  ...Easier -- How Nice!<br />This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.<br />For the record, I don't work for the company that makes this software and don't know anyone involved with it. Promise. Coming from an agency world where we had to track and account for every 4 seconds of the day to maximize billing, I've resisted time tracking tools since going freelance, preferring instead to check my watch, scribble notes in margins and reference emails, txt messages and the microwave clock to piece together time spent on projects. As business got heavier, that method worked less and less, so I finally decided to try a time tracker again. I downloaded several, all OK, but TaskTime is a delight. I love software that's so easy to use I never have to read the accompanying manual. With TaskTime, I just launched it and started using it immediately. Given that, you might think it's too limited to be of any real value. Not true. So far, TaskTime can do everything I need it to do. The software has a clean interface that doesn't wreck the Mac aesthetic (and Mac users, we know how much we like things to look good). A few key (to me) features: Allows you to add a work session -- so even if you forgot to launch and start the time tracker, you can easily add one into the record so it's included in whatever invoice you generate. Invoice generation -- Quick, easy and elegant. Sync! -- I work on a laptop and a desktop and track time on both -- TaskTime lets me combine entries, again, making it easy to generate an invoice without having to go back and manually enter all the time from one machine onto the other. Pause -- So when I get up to scarf down a bowl of chips and salsa, or when my Mom calls and wants to talk about her fish, I don't have to leave the clock running and don't have to stop a session and later start a new one. Edit Session -- Not only can I easily change work descriptions and hourly rates line by line, I can adjust the time, so when I think a project is done but a client calls five minutes later with one more quick change, I can just go in and add the extra time to the session I just closed. Overall, I think this is a great product and for $20 a total steal. And the free trial gives you (I believe) three weeks to check it out -- enough time to actually use it over a variety of needs. I've used it for more than 2 years now and it is one of the most useful downloads I've used. My clients are happy because I can update them on the fly. I'm happy because it's so simple to record and then invoice my time for my clients. I'm happy to rate TaskTime as "excellent". I do so having seen more than 10 different large software installs at companies trying to solve this same problem, and they create these massive unusable things. So I show them my TaskTime and they simply get it. Enjoy!

The coolest part is the very flexible options for getting data OUT of the program -- generated invoices, of course, but even better a real, customizable data export function. I'm glad I picked this one.

  This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.<br />This is probably a useful program but I found myself fumbling around trying to find out how it wanted me to enter basic information and how to get info back out. A timer is running and I don't quite know why; it limits me to an hourly rate - though there is an option for flat rate but I can't see where or how to enter it; I don't see where to ask it to calculate a completed task; I don't see how to enter individual tasks as part of one project, mkaing it a running amount of time spent on the project. I just don't feel it is working with or for me; I feel like I am working for it.

This I discover AFTER sending one to my client only to be given the news "We can't pay you if we don't have your name/company on the invoice somewhere." I tried to do it in PS, Acrobat, Word, but the invoice is "exported" as a graphics-type format (can't "type" in a raster type pdf invoice). So I got the update and finally there was a setup thing where I could place my name. NOW if there were support for the 'notes' field in the 'Expenses' areaâ??)I tried to give a "discount" through that and a minus in front of an amount was not supported (it *was* in the last version) but neither version pulls up the NOTE that I left in that discount expenses field in the final output of the invoice. I wanted my client to see just how much time went into her project yet I just wished to charge only what we had agreed. There was no intuitive way to place on the invoice, "First-time client discount" and deduct the proper amount. Took many tries. <p> I love how accurate it is to just run in the background. Good also for pro bono projects that you can deduct at the end of the tax year. (Be reasonable with the amount charged though).<p> What do the new boxes on the left do?<p> diggadiggadut

Usually the same day he responds emails. This seems to be constantly improving and I just paid $10 to the developer for his clean and straightforward effort on helping me track my projects with clients. Close to having all the features I need for daily use. So for now 4 stars, when its "perfect" i will give it 5. If I could I would give it 4.5 stars. All I can say is give it a try.
