SuperNotecard for Scriptwriting for Windows

Writers have been using note cards to organize their thoughts for years. Mindola's SuperNotecard for Scriptwriting takes the time-honored technique to a new level by combining virtual note cards with a word processor optimized for scriptwriting. You can drag and drop note cards on your screen, link them together in scenes, create outlines, and edit elements as you write.

The program opens with a nag screen, a sparse interface dominated by the main display, and a dialog for starting a new project or opening an existing one. Right-clicking a card calls up its properties. We started a new project, saved it, and then used the Explore feature to search and retrieve it. SuperNotecard's features and controls are optimized for scriptwriting and are somewhat unfamiliar; for instance, the Factors button lets you record elements that factor into the script, and Categories includes scene elements, settings, and linkages. The time signatures on each card and the interface make it extremely easy to maintain proper timing, one of the scriptwriter's hardest tasks. Cards can be color coded, too. There's a PDF-based Help file as well as links to useful online references like Strunk & White. We like the program's ability to split the screen to break up a project or work on two simultaneously.

SuperNotecard for Scriptwriting's free trial version limits the number of cards you can use in projects. It installs desktop icons without asking and leaves folders behind when it's uninstalled. We tested it in Vista and Windows 7. It's a unique tool that we recommend to anyone looking to write a script.
