Developed by professionals, this free application dispenses very useful audio-engineering tips. Studio Buddy couldn't be easier to use; you simply select a recording topic from the left box, and the right one will display detailed information. However, we wish the app could be minimized to your taskbar, and it would be nice if the window could be resized for easier reading. The program offers quite a bit of information on how to record certain instruments, microphone choice and placement, and usage of outboard gear such as compressors. You'll also find tips for equalizing and mixing music once basic tracking has been finished. Studio Buddy offers a quick-search option, but beyond that, you won't find any features. Professional audio engineers probably won't need this program's help, but amateurs and home hobbyists are sure to find this freebie informative.
2002???? Couldn't tell you a good thing. I hear great reviews but it doesn't even work with XP? Too bad.
Cons
It's old. Few people will even be able to download it.

Pros
I do a several live events and this is really useful for finding out the type of mics to use and other useful tricks.
Cons
The only problem is the window can't be resized so it's not as easy to read as it could be, but apart from that...

Pros
At first browsing, this seems to be a nice offering from those "in the know." A good tool to have available on your computer for when you need it. It covers alot about setting up for recording in a home studio (mic tips), but not much on home recording software tips. (Ie what is compression, reverb, delay, etc..) That's the only reason I'm giving it 4/5, not 5/5, because that's what I hoped it would contain. Nonetheless it's free! Totally free and seems to very genuine. If you like this type of informative help, and don't want to spend months on posting boards like I originally did to get up to speed on all this recording mumbo-jumbo, I recommend you contact Shure for some of their great manuals. They've got some great informative guides and even CD-ROMs. They can help you get up to speed quickly.
Cons
Doesn't have that much information in regards to operating home recording software. Though is great for many other topics. Seems pretty stable. I'm even running it on XP, though XP isn't listed in its OS.

a good selection of concise and well written tips on recording techniques. whilst most of it can be found in various location on the internet, and in paper format as well, studio buddy provides detailed concise information, without too much 'waffling'. i'd recommend this to anyone wanting to learn more about recording techniques. if you already make a living from recording then this is not for you.

If you are an engineer, this is a valuable tool to help you with a lot of small tricks. It will only help you though, if you have a great deal of equipment in your studio. I highly recommend this as a great reference tool for most small recording projects.

I thought I'd write a review cause no one yet has given this a serious review. This is a good program that contains lots of information for anyone who records music in a home studio. If you dont record music, this won't be of much help to you.
