SSuite QT Writer Express for Windows

Microsoft Word is arguably the most popular word processing program around, but it's also full of features that a lot of people have no use for. SSuite Office - QT Writer Express takes a different approach, providing a word processor that packs basic features and not much else. It might be a little too bare-bones for many users, but for others, especially kids or adults who aren't very computer literate, it could be the perfect choice.

The program's interface is plain and uncluttered, with icons across the top and a large toolbar down the left side. The basic formatting features are here; users can change font types, colors, and sizes; change the alignment and spacing; and bold, italicize, and underline text. QT Writer Express also supports bullet points and numbering, a useful touch. Users can insert the current date, special characters, and emoticons; find and replace text; and, of course, cut, copy, and paste. But that's pretty much the extent of what QT Writer Express does. There are no headers, footers, or page numbers, no tables or columns, and no spell check. We thought it a little odd that the program doesn't even separate text into pages; we copied a five-page Word document and found that it displayed as one long page when we pasted it into QT Writer Express (though we were able to get an accurate page count using the print preview feature). We liked that the program lets users save files as PDFs. The program doesn't have a Help file, but this isn't a huge drawback, as it's all pretty self-explanatory. Overall, we think that QT Writer Express is a good choice for anyone who needs a very basic word processor.
