  Nice GUI, unarchives a wide variety of formats.

  Cons

  Will not create RAR archives, despite the product description indicating RAR is supported. Built-in help confirms creation of RAR archives is not supported. This was the primary purpose I downloaded the product for.

  Summary

  Seems like a nicely produced product for the few archive types it can create, but needs to support creation of RAR archives.

  This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.<br />THe guy who is running around claiming false advertising is, I was going to say an idiot, but he's probably smart enough. He made assumptions and then expected the developer to some how "make it happen". He also didn't hear a word of the very patient explanations. His chief complaint is that split archives are not supported by other Mac applications, even though it is a standard format. Which is like saying Microsoft WORD is not a Mac word processor because not every word processor on the Mac can open .doc files. I have been testing Spriny today and it does everything it says it does and does it quite well. I have a small collection of archiving tools right now and I plan to dump the rest of them and just use Springy. It's fast and has some features that are not available on any other archiving utility on the Mac. Ironically that was basically the malcontents problem, that the developer had the nerve to do some things that nobody else on the Mac was doing yet! How dare he!!!

  This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.<br />This is the best and far most intuitive archiving utility for Mac OSX IMHO...And I tried a lot...Ease of use and number of supported archiving formats cannot be beaten by anything else..Kudos to developer... As for previous poster remarks...I think he/she misunderstood the Springy completely...This is not the tool for just splitting and joining files, although it can do that also in more than a good way, this is the ultimate tool for working with LOT of various archive types...I have read the discussion of mentioned poster and developer on Springy forum and I think that the poster simply dont understand anything regarding splitting/concatenate files...For plain split/join you can use built-in UNIX tools..For truly working with archives try Springy..You will be amazed for sure...

  This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.<br />Ever since I ditched Windows for my MacBook Pro, I've missed the ability to easily and quickly BROWSE the contents of a zip archive. Springy gave me this ability, both through the context menu and in a familiar finder-like interface. My only real complaint so far is that it doesn't allow you to specify other file types that SHOULD be treated as zip archives, like java JARs, WARs and EARs. I need to browse them very often, and currently they can't even be opened with Springy. (Note that the developer has promised this feature in an update "very soon" in his website's forum.) The application seems a little slower thant Stuffit at straight-up expanding, but then that's not its main draw for me, anyway. Springy will run fine with no nags or pop-ups as a shareware app, but some features (like the context-menu browsing) will only work if you cough up the $18 for registration. (A little on the pricey side, but I can live with it.)
