  Pros

  It doesn't contain any viruses. It doesn't even offer to install third party software. It's the cleanest possible installation. I can't understand the fake reviewers, shame on you. Very easy options dialog.

  Some important customizations are missing like custom shortcuts etc

The other guys who complain about malware in the installation file are not fakes. I have a clean installation file that was downloaded from here some weeks ago but today the file on cnet server does not contain the Splash Lite video player at all. It just installs a couple of adware programs. All in all, this is a decent player but someone has screwed with cnet files, so be careful during installation and never agree to install anything else but the product you want.

  I have not tried the product - it was quarantined and removed by my anti-virus (Kingsoft).

  Cons

  apparently, the installer contains a virus. whether it's a pure virus or spyware or malware I do not know, but my frontline defence Kingsoft anti-virus identified it as containing a virus and removed the file.

  Summary

  if the creators do not have malware contained in the program or in the installer, they should re-compile the code to avoid false-positives. but the fact that other reviewers are reporting problems, I'm erring on the side of caution and not touching this, as there are other codec packs and media players to choose from.

• "Do Search" browser hijacker installs with program

  Used to be my go to player. When I updated to the latest version I had lots of malware to deal with; the "Do Search" browser hijacker being the most annoying. I can no longer recommend this player.

  None, unless you are looking for a great way to ruin a brand new computer.

  Yesterday, I decided to install the Splash Lite video player. I downloaded it directly from the Mirillis.com home page. During the install, the default was to install Yahoo Toolbar and a host of other bloatware stuff. I unchecked these boxes and continued with the install. Next, the installer installed Yahoo Toolbar anyways along with a ton of other viruses, web browser hijackers, web browser pop ups, etc. In particular, it installed the "Do Search" browser hijacker which took me all night to get off my machine. What a pain! Their old version of Splash Lite was pretty good, but stay away from the new version, unless you enjoy having all this junk installed on your computer without your consent.

  Summary

  The new version of this software is junk. Personally, I stay away from any company like Mirillis Ltd that depends on installing viruses, bloatware, and malware on people's computers as a way to make money.

• Amazing video quality but room for improvement

  1. Cool user interface. 2. Crystal clear picture quality. 3. Low usage of RAM. 4. Very stable. 5. Can be used for smart television viewing with a little tweaking. 6. EcoMode.

  Cons

  1. Lots of options don't work. We need to go for the pro-version for them to work. 2. At times older formats like rmvb, avi. etc., don't play.

  Summary

  Splash Lite is one of the coolest looking media players ever. But don't just fall for the looks, beacuse coupled with the looks are amazing audio/video quality. It claims to play hi-def videos with great clarity, without losing frames or slowing down the system and it delivers on its promises. There is something called EcoMode that allows us to use Splash Lite on a laptop by saving battery life, reducing display brightness and power consumption.

  There are no positives in installing this application.

  Cons

  This application will hijack all your browsers and redirect search engines to point to search.us.com. I really wonder why CNET is risking their reputation by hosting these malware applications? For CNET folks, now that my system is corrupted by downloading this app, can you also point me to an app which will remove the adware/malware installed by this application.

  Summary

  If you dont want to have sleepless nights, PLEASE DON'T INSTALL THIS APPLICATION!!!!

  Pros

  It's free but so is lint.

  Cons

  Won't install useably on xp. Probably because of needing some c++ visual redistributable. I managed to install it while avoiding the adware/spyware but it wasn't easy, it was very misleading. I also had to remove some viruses the next day. I suspect they came from the Splash Lite installation attempt. After installed it simply wouldn't open.

  Summary

  No thanks. I'm using BSplayer.

• Spyware without asking

  Could not run at all. Spent whole evening uninstalling other programs installed without warning
