Space Patrol will satisfy all your yearnings for an old school-style space shooting game with its straightforward controls and a familiar interface. The game, itself, is pretty basic. You control a spaceship that can move left or right along the bottom of the screen and shoot at aliens advancing from the top. The aliens are also shooting, so to avoid getting hit, you have to move your ship into position to get off a shot and then quickly slide out of the way. You get three lives per game, and you lose a life if you are hit by an enemy shot or if one of the aliens reaches the bottom of the screen. When your game is over, you'll see your stats for that round, including number of kills, shots, and shooting accuracy.

Space Patrol has a streamlined interface, with horizontal space ship movement controlled by the left and right arrow keys, and shooting initiated with the space bar. This is a fun, free game, and it will be especially nostalgic for anyone who played these kinds of games as a kid.
