  works great on windows XP, open file and save file dialog boxes work

  Cons

  On windows 7 and 8, the open files and save files dialog boxes are empty. Only the "OK" and "cancel" buttons work in the dialog box. I gave it a 3 because I really wanted to use it on my windows 7 computer.

  Recommended for experienced programmers, webpage designers, etc. tired of using notepad to view source code (html, css, java, etc). It colors certain words for easy viewing. Works with multiple programming/scripting languages (see their webpage for add-ons). It doesn't modify your html code with garbage (a lot of other software do). The side navigation bar means you don't have to leave the program to find another file to open. Since everything is kept in tabs at the top, your source code files stay organized and are easy to access. Provides you with line & column #s for debugging. Easy commenting and smart indenting. Plus many more features.

  Cons

  Every so often you may find that something is not colored when it should be. (Seldom is it ever colored wrong). It doesn't support every scripting language, and sometimes has trouble detecting the uncommon languages (ASM, Matlab). This is not a compile anything/everything program, for good reasons.

  Okay, the program starts off softly and nice then it crashes and freezes up, I do not recommend any one downloading this software unless you want to go crazy.

  This product is excellent! I love the way you can open, edit, and then save a file directly from a FTP server. It has code completion just like many other development tools, even though it's not object based like in Visual Studio, but I find that understandable since you can use this editor for any possible language you can think of. There are several ways you can create templates for your code and my favorite is the Code Template feature, just type the name of your template and hit Ctrl+Enter and it will insert your templete code at the current cursor position. I also like the Code Publisher feature which will turn my code (regardless of language) into a HTML page, with my source color coded ready to be published on the Net or into my documentation or HTML help file. <p> <p>There are so many features in this program that I'm supprised that it's free. I read another review here that found the menus confusing which I personally don't understand at all. It follows the MS Office standard when it comes to the main menus, and the sub menus are positioned where they should, meaning the tools are found under the tools menu, and so on. <p> <p>Not only does this code editor have all the goodies, it is also customisable to the max. You can change or set the shortcut for any command, even those you don't find in the menus. You can easily create new language definitions, and customize the colors for the language. You can add user tools that can allow you to turn it into a full blown IDE, and it even has it's own macro language that allows you to create your own add-ins for any other features you need.

  Cons

  My main complaint is that it has a very slow start-up!!! It also contains a bug that at some times (for no particular reason) it deletes you shortcut settings. You need to write protect the file in which source edit stores these settings in to make sure they are not deleted. But then again you will not be able to change these setting without removing the write protection... But then again, you normally set these shortcuts once and never change them, so this is a minor but still an anoying bug.

  Small, easy installation. Surely has some nice features.

  Confusing menus. You don't find the options you seek. Configuring is not easy and clear, as I have seen on other editors.
