Great!

- Summary
- This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
While getting a bit long in the tooth, soulseeX still is a great client, the best Mac Soulseek client there is. Unfirtunately it doesn't seem to behave well for some random users. There's one thing though, that you have to try first, if ssX keeps on filling your HD: Turn off logging in ssX. An application restart once on a while won't hurt either. The developer is busy keeping the slsk server running and also contributing to the further development of the official (Windows) slsk client. Expect ssX to be updated after that is out of the way. When will that be? Dunno, maybe in 6 months, maybe in a year, but meanwhile I'm still (after >3 years of usage) happy with the current release.
\"Stable\"? \"Reliable\"? NO WAY!! Buggy & annoying.

- Summary
- This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I wish I had whatever "ssX" the other reviewers seem to be so happy with - because the one I have is buggy and unstable. What do I hate about this program? First of all: the mother of all memory leaks. Whenever I leave this thing open, gigabyte after gigabyte of my hard drive's free space slowly disappear as more and more swapfiles are written. Opening this program is a great way to use up all your hard drive's free space in a few short hours, and I don't mean with downloads. Then: once it's consumed your hard drive, you start getting errors that say "Connection failed". Nothing of the sort is happening - it just can't write to your hard drive. So you quit & restart the program. SURPRISE! IT HAS FORGOTTEN ALL YOUR IN-PROGRESS DOWNLOADS! Hope you remember what you had in progress, because your download screen is now empty, empty, empty and you'll have to search for everything you were downloading, find it all over again, and re-queue it all by hand! Nice, huh? Of course, that's assuming the people you were downloading from even still show up in the search results. Because it doesn't find people who are clearly on line because they turn up in other searches, and then if I open their share files I can see that they are sharing the files I was looking for, it just didn't show them in the search results no matter how many times I tell it to search again. It seems pretty random who it finds and who it doesn't. The reason I'm writing this review is because all of the above just happened to me in the last 20 minutes. There is no soulseek client for OS X.
Still the best

- Summary
- This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
This is clearly still the best soulseek client out there available on Mac. I've been using it since the early beta stage and was always happy to be able to rely on it. Even though the current release is getting long in the tooth it still is rock stable on my MacBook Pro. I haven't looked at the (official) Windows client for a while but since Chris is involved in its development now it can only get better! For the Mac the obvious choice is soulseeX, the rest might look shinier and stuff but doesn't stand a chance performance wise.
The best SoulSeek client for Mac

- This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
This is a good Soulseek client. Very nice. 4 stars for that. I take one off as default share is "/", ie my complete HD. Hello? This is just ridicolous. A file share shoudl never deafult to that. And no, I didn't make "/" a share myself, neither did anyone else.
not bad

- Summary
- This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
the interface needs a bit of work (please get rid of those annoying Windows-esque hot help things). plus, searches only find files names - if you want to find the album or artist, you need to do by indirectly searching for a song. that's not very intuitive.
