Display current weather conditions and forecasts on the desktop.
Son of Weather Grok is an application that displays weather conditions and forecasts for cities from around the world. It taps into NOAA's (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) data center using 4 letter ICAO codes for Airports. A web page to help you locate these ICAO codes can be found at: http://www.nws.noaa.gov/oso/siteloc.shtml The ICAO is the code with the 4 letters. The codes that use numbers will NOT work. Keep in mind that some remote stations, like most in Afghanistan, do not work. Give it a try, but some of these stations never seem to report any data. Son of Grok will show the temperature, sky conditions, humidity, wind speed, pressure, ceiling, visibility, and much more. Weather data is usually updated hourly from NOAA, and you can set Son of Grok to get this data at specified time intervals. The data is then displayed in an easy to read format using fancy-schmancy sky condition illustrations like you see on the news, along with the details in a small scrolling ticker and drop down list.
Doesn't unpack, TextEdit reads it fine. The OS doesn't

Pros
It was a fast, albeit fruitless download
Cons
Other than taking up time and space, adding to my frustration level with CNET and mislabeled software. I gained nothing from this experiment with futility
Summary
CNET needs to do a better job of vetting software. They might even have to hire a few more people. I certainly would not upgrade to techtracker plus after experiences like this.
weather.gov it is unless I see lots of positive user comments before I download.
Then there is the developer of this software. Innocent of misdoing? I don't know. I will be leery of downloading anything else from them.
OS does matter, I am using 10.6.6. Perhaps it works well in older OSs.

Cons
This product DOESN'T WORK. I downloaded it, double clicked on it, and everything seemed to unstuff and open fine. But then I clicked on File > New Window > Current Conditions, and the program QUIT with no warning. I figured, Hmm, my fault, let's try it again. Again, the same thing happened. After the third try, this product went in the trash!

Surprisingly easy to use and understand

Summary
OSX uses this product quite easily, though being it is not an OSX product, it may quit without warning occasionally (no more or less than any other non-mac product though). It is a very simple, attractive program, it has a good list of areas to gather weather information from, and it has a very good "preferences" format so you can set it up the way you like it.
As an amateur, I recommend this product.
Works fine on current systems

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.<br />I'm wagering that my review might get some a bit miffed . .
On OS X this application runs fine, all the features work and it displays properly on all my OS X machines. If there is any complaint it's the rather slow rate of updates.
For all it's quirks*, OS 9 is dead, dead, dead I TELL YOU! ==D E A D==
It's time to move on :)
*I miss some of the aspects of 9 and earlier, which I expect will eventually get added back into OS X

Runs great. Overall I rate this 5 stars. Totally easy to install and update. So easy that I haven't had to use the support/documentation. Features are great, I would only like to see Forecasts. Quality is great and so far the stability is great also. And PRICE! Heck it is FREE! What's not to like.
Great job guys!
Peace,
Chris.
