Contrary to popular belief, the creation of PDF files doesn't require expensive, complex software. There are plenty of utilities out there now that make PDF creation as simple as printing. Solid PDF Creator is one such program. This basic piece of software lets users create PDFs with little effort or expertise.

Solid PDF Creator is attractive and easy to navigate. Once the program is installed it appears as a printer in the Print menu of every program that has printing capabilities. Users simply select Solid PDF Creator instead of their default printer, and the program opens a dialog allowing users to save the PDF in the desired location. Users can enter the PDF's title, subject, author and keywords, as well as add passwords and encryption. There are also settings for viewer preferences and document quality. The program's built-in Help file is brief but adequate; we're glad that it has one, but most users probably won't need to consult it. Overall, Solid PDF Creator isn't fancy, but it is true to its name: a solid piece of software that does what it's designed to do without a lot of fuss. We liked that it includes a few useful extras without a bunch of pointless filler features. We think this program is a great choice for anyone who wants to create PDF files as easily as they print documents.

There are no pros for this program, or for any like it either!

I am so sick and tired of hearing the PDF creation scam! All this program does is CONVERT a document into a PDF using the print command. A true PDF CREATOR is a program where you can write the text, insert bookmarks, headers, footers, page numbers, security, etc, and then save that document as a COMPLETE PDF. Programs which "create" PDFs using the print command only create an IMAGE of a document, but not a true full featured PDF. So, in fact, programs like this are only converting a written document into a PDF image. And what is terrible is the fact that there are thousands of these fake PDF "creators", and this makes it almost impossible to find a real editor which creates a true PDF document.

Doesn't render colors of fonts from Publisher or Word or Wordperfect. It will render what it thinks on downsampling. It also thinks that it will duplex print. Don't understand that.

To convert only, this program is recommandable.

Trial to scan. After 10 pages you have to wait 15 minutes until the automatic optimizatiion ends. After scanning in a new document I miss more often parts of the original. The OCR is the old MODI from MS Office 2007. It's absolutly not timely.

The program did not run on my 64-bit Windows 7 machine. Execution began, but then the program hung. I thought that this might be a replacement for Cute PDF Writer, but I quickly switched back.

Fairly straightforward installation, and running it. I had neither nag screen nor my default printer being changed as others indicated; but maybe I didn't test it long enough.

Wasn't sure if it didn't always ask me for topic, author, etc.

1 - Didn't work for me! 2 - Info says FREE, it is not, just a trial version 3 - And my default printer got unmarked, w/o my opinion...

It makes good multi-page PDF documents and the Print to PDF option does what it says on the tin. It was fairly straight forward to install and worked almost as described.
Cons
Rather invasive. Installing as a printer wouldn't be bad if it didn't seem to set itself as the default printer every time I used it. It wasn't free and the makers really shouldn't be nagging to pay for it each time we open it to use it.
Summary
A good way to create a PDF document from multiple paged docs but annoying that it isn't really free. It would be better if it had a 30 uses or 30 day option and a cheaper upgrade price, and so far I've not found it usable enough and instead have put a genuinely free one on my system called "doPDF" which works identically and doesn't take over the default printing nor does it nag about buying it. So I voted with my feet so to speak.
